Here's what's worrying: If Girardi isn't convinced that Brett Gardner deserves to be the full time, everyday left fielder and lead off hitter for this team then he is going to platoon Jones into left field.

Since Jones is not going to be your DH, and you're going to want to actually use him since he is on your team, that means every time you face a lefty pitcher, Gardner comes out of the lineup for Jones. At this point in his career that is a huge down grade for the Yanks in defense, average and overall table setting on the base paths.

The idea that you have to signifigantly change your lineup and defense just because the other team has a lefty on the mound makes your team reactionary to others moves and takes away the ability of your club to play it's own brand of baseball.

And for the Yankees of 2011, that brand should be small ball with Gardner and Jeter at 1,2 and then long Ball with Tex, Arod, and Cano behind them. This should be the approach no matter who is on the mound. And then defense, defense, defense in the outfield.

The addition of Jones to this team makes me think Jeter is still going to be the lead off batter and leaves me very worried about our offense and Girardi's approach.

Do you honestly believe that the Yankees signing Jones who will be a part time DH, part time 4th outfield and lucky to get 250 AB's to probably a $1 or $2M one year contract will have any sort of material effect on the Yankees overall performance. Posada is going to get most of the DH bats and Jones will occasionally spell one of the outfields. Jones obviously isn't the players he once was but he also isn't the player who the Dodgers signed either. Jones is exactly what the Yankees are signing him for a temporary respite for the regulars.

How'd your Bravos make out with Melky, Proctor, Hinske and Farnsworth last season? Jones looks like an upgrade from Marcus Thames, and Marcus was pretty valuable last season. That appears to be a 2-way street between Hotlanta and the Evil Empire.

I love the way the Yankees get roasted when they spend big money, and roasted when they sign people on the cheap.
