Pettitte is a nice #4. Galarraga is a decent #5.

seeing as how he was DFAd i would assume that they would not expect alot in return so yes… i would trade for him assuming its a A/AA player or something like that. this is one kid that i think is worth the risk. its not that he has overpowering or electric stuff but hes young , cheap and if you work out the kinks could be a nice #4. this of course is assuming that Andy is not coming back. if he is coming back then you have Nova in the 5 spot with AJ in the 4 spot so you dont need Galaragga.

I can only imagine he’ll have no shortage of suitors in the weeks ahead. If he’s smart he’ll do the one-year type of thing in San Diego to boost his value. He’s always been solid (not great, mind you, but solid) against right-handers. Perhaps he’s better suited for a relief role?!

Craig: Tender date was Dec. 2, 2010. Since that date, Galarraga has been under contract with the Tigers, the amount was the only bit to be determined. As they didn’t sign Penny until this week, I don’t think assuming the Tigers should have known six weeks ago that they’d sign Penny is a fair criticism. It is a fair question as to if Penny will be any better in 2011 than Galarraga, however; but that’s a different question.

Utley’s Hair: the contract Galarraga signed (like virtually all arbitration eligible player contracts) is non-guaranteed prior to the season. Depending on when he is released, AG gets either 30 or 45 days pay, iirc, until the seasons starts when the contract becomes guaranteed. No weaseling required.
