To phukyouk – I want to preface my post by saying I understand your frustration certainly last year did not turn out the way any Yankee fan would of liked and this preseason has been disappointing. But some of that is beyond even the Yankees financial prowess. The FA market this season has been pretty devoid of “quality player” that the Yankees needed that’s not Cashmans or Girardi’s fault. As for the way last season played out it wasn’t Girardi’s fault that both AJ and Vazquez couldn’t get out of their own way the 2nd half of the season. It wasn’t Girardi’s fault that for the better part of the last half of the season Jeter played like a dog.
As far as your rest posts comments, obviously you are correct about them missing the post season. That was after 3 years that Torre failed to lead the Yankees past the ALDS. Isn’t it more likely that the reason the Yankees missed the playoffs in 2008, had more to do with the players then with Girardi’s managing. Since they weren’t able to even get out of the first round of the playoffs in those prior 3 years under Torre. And in both 2006 and 2007 they only won 1 game in each of those series. I find it ironic that you are willing to assign total blame for the Yankees missing the playoffs in 2008 to Girardi, yet you give him absolutely no credit for the Yankees winning the World Series the following year. My friend this is just my opinion but you can’t have it both ways. If he’s to blame for their failures then he should receive at least some of the credit for their success. Like I said that’s just my opinion.

we won the WS in SPITE of girardis management. and lets not forget that he lead us to our first non playoffs in 14 yrs. hes a terrible manager and the sooner he leaves the better.

To phukyouk – We all get that Cashman and Girardi are not that high on your list. But as for Cashman sure he has made mistakes it goes with the territory. Are there better GM’s probably but there are worse one’s also. In his defense he’s been the Yankees GM since 1998 I believe since that time the Yankees have won 4 World Series Titles appeared in 2 addition world series, made it to the ALCS 2 other times and made 5 other post season appearances. Does he deserve all of the credit, absolutely not, but he doesn’t deserve all of the blame either. Many of the examples you took the time to list above in an earlier post happened when the “Boss” ran the Yankees with an iron hand. Sure as fans we want the Yankees to be in the World Series every years but aside from that being an unrealistic expectation by fans it’s never going to happen. Even during the glory years of the Yankees the 40′s and 50′s that would have been an unrealistic expectation.
As for Girardi, give the man time he’s been the Yankee skipper 3 years and in those 3 years they won a World Series title and made it to the ALCS.

i bleed blue like youself but no.. they dont keep winning. as a Yankee and a Yankees fan if you dont bring home the chip you aint worth sht. sure they make the playoffs yr after yr after yr but you know what… so do the Twins. you put gardenhire (sp?) as the Yanks manager and i GUARANTEE at least 5 more wins.

Excellent list. I was hoping someone would compile a list like this. With proper management, the Yankees would probably dominate. Without money, this organization would have sucked for decades because it cannot produce any good young talent. They have to resort to buying talent from other teams, and even then, they are more hit than miss. Like I said, Cashman is overrated.

Trades like:
Ted Lilly for Jeff Weaver
Tyler Clippard for Jonathan albaldejo
Gary Sheffield and Randy Johnson for NOBODY
Mike Lowell for Nobody

How abouth throwing a whole bunch of money away on
Contreras and Clemens the 2nd time

Or just letting guys go because they’re done or have no talent like
Carlos Pena

Maybe giving up on guys like
Juan Rivera Or nick johnson, who he traded for javy vasquez.

Then brough both guys back.

Or showing no loyalty to the guys that produced, cause their not your guys like:
Bernie
Duque – had a couple years left
Mats
Letting Pettite walk for 3 years

And now bringing Jeter’s sht to the public, and telling the media that you told andy not to Brett Favre us.

Notice how the guys plays hardball tough guy and tries to save money on all the players he didn’t recruit/scout under his watch.

(Don’t forget austin Jackson, jose tabata, jeff karstens, cornerstones of your youth movement for what?)

Give me a blank check and I can be a much better GM than that guy.

Mediocre is being kind. hes done nothing with the exception of Siwsher and MAYBE wood. and PLEASE dont tell me about CC and TEX cause lets be honest.. my dead grandmother could have signed those two. he signed Javy and Nick J TWICE. and of course noone will ever forget the wonderful 40 Mil dollar man.. no im not tlaking about Pavano. i mean Kei “most wins in NY Yankees minor league history: Iguana.

Of course Cashman was against the Soriano signing. That’s because Soriano can actually HELP the team. Cashman has whiffed more than he’s hit homers. He’s mediocre at best.

Of course the grass would be greener on the other side. Think about it, if the Yanks win, everyone says it’s because of the payroll. If they lose, “Cashman made bad moves.”
If you’re a GM, wouldn’t you want control of the roster, and respect? He gets neither in NY.

Cashman only has the 2011 season left on his contract. Why would he be trying to be let go now or for that matter why would the Yankees let he go now? He makes about $2M per. What kind of buy out could he expect? His contract is almost over anyway.

I choose B. But Cashman should be warned the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the ball park. It will be fascinating as the season plays out to see if there is a rift or if this is all being overblown.

My guess is that he’s either a) testing the waters to see how much power he has with the boys in complete control or b) already sick of the boys running things, wants out and wants relieved of his duties so he gets a buyout.

Either way, I think at least half of the GMs in baseball could do an on-the-surface “great” job with the resouces Cashman has at his disposal. So if he’s trying to get out, I’m sure it won’t be too difficult if he keeps this up.

I hope it’s not too quick though, I do love some good Yankees-in-turmoil stories.
