The Royals should have a big crowd on April 2nd. And not just for the Royals-Angels game scheduled that afternoon:
According to team spokesman Toby Cook, the Royals are planning to hold a minor league exhibition game between its top two minor league affiliates, Class AAA Omaha and Class AA Northwest Arkansas, on April 2 at Kauffman Stadium. The showdown will take place approximately 30 minutes after the Royals conclude their game against the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim, which is scheduled to start at 12:10 p.m.
With Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer, Mike Montgomery and all of the other studs in the Royals system, the question has to be asked whether it wouldn’t be better to start a combined roster of the AAA and AA teams against the Angels that afternoon and let Jeff Francoeur, Melky Cabrera and the current major leaguers play a game that doesn’t count.

After the games are included, Frenchie can hitch a ride on the team bus to Class A North Platte.

There is a decent chance that Moustakas plays in the early game against the Angels.

No way he starts the season with the big club. Not when they can push back his arbitration by a full-season if they wait a few months and bring him up at the end of May or early June.
No reason to rush a guy and start paying him big bucks any sooner than you have to when the team doesn’t figure to contend with or without him in 2011.

Yeah, I’m not holding my breath that it would happen, but DM did say that he’ll be given a shot to “force their hand”. A suffering Royals fan can dream right?
Betiment and Aviles should be able to hold down 3rd pretty well anyway. Although I’d rather see Aviles at 2b instead of Getz…

What they should really do is hold the game before the Angels game, and have it be AA/AAA against the Royals. The winner receives the opportunity to be the Royals for the rest of the season.

And the loser gets to be the Pirates?

Or at least play the Angels. The FBB wire guys would go nuts on that one.

No mention of Gil Meche retiring

My only question. If I go to these games. Do I rock the Storm Chasers hat, or the Royals hat?
I’m kind of a minimalist, I’m not going to bring both into the stadium.

Will David Glass attend this game since his Arkansas team will be up here? Might be one of the few our absentee owner attends.
