Craig, you are reading way too much into Frenchie’s comment. He simply meant that Citi Field is joke. The fact is that Citi Field is a joke. It cost way too much and is an interior product when compared to most of the other MLB/AAA fields. Shea Stadium was called the rock pile. Citi Field is the falling down, junk pile. Not even a Yankees – Sox game there could give the place some class.

I live in CT, and knew how to get in and out of Shea easily. Citi Field messed up the traffic pattern so bad, that in trying to exit the place, I ended up twice going down the Van Wyck toward JFK and hooking an on-and-off uuuie just to get back on the Van Wyck north to the Whitestone (quickest route I knew). Still haven’t figure out how the bleep to get out of that stadium onto the Whitestone Bridge cleanly.
Citi Field food is much better than Shea, though.

It’s pretty easy to strip that out, actually. Park factors take that into account and adjust for it. A simplified way to adjust for it is to compare how road teams hit at x park versus how they hit on the road at other parks.

They tried this and called it 2002. Or any year 1995-2003. Didn’t work out so well for them, so they moved the fences back to what they had been prior to 1995. The fences are still shorter than what they had been originally, though (8 feet now instead of 12 as they had been prior to 1995).

Also the power blue at home isn’t really working either.

I actually really like going to games at Citi when I lived in NY. I also liked Shea, as well. Maybe I’m just a sucker for National Leauge baseball?

My guess is the amount of runs that occur in a stadium are a function of how good each team is and what they’re good at more than the park itself. If a park is neutral, a good-hitting poor-pitching team will make it look hitter-friendly while a poor-hitting good-pitching team will have the opposite effect.

What a strange website (Parkfactors.com): how can a stadium that produces 3% more runs — according to parkfactors — be an “extreme pitcher’s park.” Just because a stadium suppresses HRs (hello, Fenway) doesn’t mean it is a pitchers park.
