I don’t know how well the Museum is staffed. Things fall through the cracks even in a well-financed organization. If the Museum relies on “connected” volunteers (Connected: Friends and relatives of paid staffers), oversight becomes more difficult and the situation that Craig describes is actually fairly common. Been there…Seen that.
In addition, non-profits are only slightly different than most for-profits. While greed may not be a primary motivation, there are always plenty of egos to be stroked, particularly among volunteers and financial contributors and the loudest (not to be confused with the best) ideas are usually considered.

For those of us who love baseball and history, this is particularly sad. IMHO, Communication and marketing are the keys to the survival of a publicly funded non-profit and when they fail, the future is bleak.
