Check out the A’s new “alternate home jerseys”

a's new jerseys

Today the A’s unveiled their new “alternate home jerseys” and Jane Lee of MLB.com snapped a picture.

I might be in the minority as someone who likes the A’s usual white, green, and yellow ensemble, but these new ones are pretty hideous at first glance.

Of course, we won’t realize the full scope of the new jerseys’ sex appeal until Hideki Matsui steps into the batter’s box wearing them.

My cat has vomited up things that are more attractive than these shirts.

Wow, I’d like to meet your cat! If your cat can vomit up something even CLOSE to as great as those jerseys you should be famous. Love them!

    Do not want.

Huge improvement over those ugly black alternate jersey Oakland worn the last several years. No, the Philadelphia A’s did not wear yellow, but the A’s did wear yellow in the 70s and 80s.

    Looks like cake batter

These are nicer than the booger/puke ensembles. You crazy Craig.

i guess their theory is…. ” we cant win so we may as well change something”? those are worse than the fishsticks that the Islanders worse for a season.

Excellent observation. I mean, teams never restyle their uniforms, and the A’s haven’t been to the playoffs in like four whole years.

sorry… sarcasm doesnt come over well in Text. im just saying. in recent memory teams that have been changing their look have been the crappy ones. the A’s have not made that playoffs in ONLY 4 yrs but havent seen the WS since 1990. when i say “win” i mean consistently.
        P.S. those are ugly.

    • clydeserra - Jan 28, 2011 at 3:59 PM

      Recent memory, 1990? OK

Are you talking about the same Athletics who had the 6th most wins from 2000-2009?

The main reason teams restyle jerseys is to generate fan revenue. EPL teams change their jerseys every year, for the most part. The A’s could make as much as $600 total on replica jersey sales if all their 2011 fans bought a new jersey.

That said, these are not consistent with the A’s prevailing color schemes. So for purists they are unacceptable.

The half-dozen or so remaining A’s fans may not recognize their team at all in these things. But they may still buy one each, thus generating the $600.

I said “hideous”, you said “unacceptable”…..either way, I think we’re on the same page. So you can subtract my theoretic contribution from that $600.

      • apbaguy - Jan 28, 2011 at 12:21 AM

It’s my attempt at a more civil discourse. Besides, you said hideous first, so that was already taken.

    • florida76 - Jan 27, 2011 at 7:33 PM

The color black has been inconsistent with the Oakland A’s traditional color schemes, so having a yellow alternate jersey is appropriate. The A’s have been using green/yellow since the 1960s, so using black in recent years made no sense.

Hopefully, the Blue Jays and Mets will see the light and drop black from their respective uniforms.

People shopping for a gender-nuetral baby shower gift for their A’s favoring friends will be thrilled with this new option.

That’s a good description. Expect sales for these to peak at Easter when pastels are more in fashion. I could also envision the primary color being featured as a bridesmaid theme color. That’s not a compliment to whomever designed these things.

Need to see em with pants. It would be great if the pants are the same color.

The regular A’s jerseys are one of the best looking jerseys in baseball.
