I really don’t think this deal makes or breaks the Orioles. Vlad’s getting older, I just don’t see him being the big deal to put the Orioles in a better postion for a run at the playoffs. They have more important needs to address, rather than an aging DH, who can still swing the bat better than most mind you.

The Redskins lead the NFL in offseason buzz every season, how is that working out for them? Vlad isn’t going to be the difference between the O’s making the playoffs or not next season and signing him could have long term negative ramifications (two examples off the top of my head, make Scott more expensive in arbitration next season and retard Reimold’s growth).

This is typical of the “Orioles Way”. Low-ball a big name player so that he eventually turns it down, and then the O’s brass can say “well we tried”. Signing a guy like Guerrero would put us over the top in buzz around the league, but whether we sign him or not it shows yet again how this club is NOT committed to doing what it takes to win.

Vlad’s really running out of other options. I think if he really intends on playing this coming season he better take the Orioles offer. Hopefully the above mentioned offer is for at least $3M guaranteed and the rest incentives. Vlad deserves that much.
