I saw the same thing on Yahoo Sports. The offer is for: $750K : $1.1M if he makes the ML club and an additional $3.4M in incentives. So the total if he makes the ML club and reaches all the incentives which you have to assume is probably based on games/starts pitched would be $4.5M That seems like a lot for a guy who has only pitched 20+ innings in 3 years. I have been advocating on this site that the Yankees should give him a shot but I don’t know for that kind of money if that would have made sense. Especially where if he made the Yankees roster he would have only been the #5 to knock Mitre out of the rotation. I’m not sure if for that kind of money either Millwood who can give you innings and if he could possibly get away from that one big inning early in the game wouldn’t be a better choice or Garcia (who I really don’t like for Yankee stadium) can probably be had for about $3M. I guess right now short of a trade for the Yankees the pickings are pretty, pretty slim. But I have to say either right now are better alternatives than Mitre. I sure hope Andy makes a decision soon and decides to come back for opening day. The opening day roster would look a whole lot better with CC, Andy, Hughes, AJ & Nova then CC, Hughes, AJ, Nova and Mitre/Millwood or Garcia.

According to the fine folks at ESPN, this thing is official: The deal, which is pending completion of a physical exam, could pay Duchscherer up to $4.5 million in salary and incentives, the source said.

How does it make any sense that Duchscherer is still a free agent at all in the final days of January.

The dude is too good when healthy–and he’s been healthy about as often as Brandon Webb/Erik Bedard/etc… who signed months ago–to not be signed by now.
