I'm less interested in what stats say about Utley and/or Howard and more interested in what I saw with my own eyes. Lopez dominated them in that series. Period. Initially Chahlie refused to do anything about it even though the obvious solution was to go Utley-Werth-Howard and break them up. Either he was too stubborn to make the necessary adjustments based on the situation, or he was not smart enough to recognize them. Eventually he did make a change but rather than moving Werth, which was clearly the best solution, he put Polanco in the 3 hole between Utley and Howard. I mean, that's the equivalent of showing up 3 hours late to a dinner party and bringing a 6 pack of Natty Ice instead of a bottle of wine.

The Giants did/do have superior starting pitching but if the Phillies had a more reliable bullpen they might have been able to get more out of their starters by either shortening the game or, you know, not having to use them as relievers. The Phillies could have won the series but Chahlie couldn't get out of his own way. Chahlie and the Phillies played the series like an AL team, sitting around and waiting for the 3 run homer and the big inning that never came because the Giants pitching is too good. While Bochy was making moves and making adjustments, tweaking his lineup and his defense and never hesitating to go to his bullpen, Chahlie just sat there and did nothing.

You do realize that Utley has no platoon split at all, right? He was significantly better vs LHP last year, and for his career he's an identical 894 OPS vs both RHP and LHP. Of course, now the Phils don't have a strong RH bat, which is Amaro's fault, and not Manuel's.

Wow, I'm shocked the Phills even made the playoffs. I guess you knew their lightning in a bottle escaped them and they were doomed in the championship series.....
You are incompetent when you leave your lefties together so your opponents' lefty specialist can get both out, even though you had a slugging righty to put in between them. That's not smart. Also bringing in a 33 year old start in relief when your pen is fully rested isn't too bright either.
