Cal Ripken’s daughter should have her mouth washed out with soap

Cal Ripken

This will be funny for anyone who collected baseball cards in the 1980s but sort of perplexing for anyone who didn’t.  Short version: Cal Ripken’s daughter called him a Billy Ripken’s bat handle.

Those of you needing more explanation are probably best served by reading the story over at the Baltimore Sun as its too rambling to effectively and fairly blockquote.

And yes, I have that card.  About a dozen of them.

My brother in law work for the company that put the gum in with the cards and we have MANY copies of the FF card. The fact that there are so many in circulation probably means they aren’t worth anything.

That card is a classic! I doubt kids collect cards anymore. At one time it was one of the few ways to see a guys lifetime stats.

Card collecting, what a lost art. Great card, I remember tearing through a set looking for it.

I heard Cal tell this story on last week’s NPR Quiz show, “Only a Game.” He was a hoot!
