I have no sentiment tied up in the Rangers (Mariner fan) and I think these have been a series of good moves for them. It is hard for a player to recognize when he is becoming a detriment to a team in certain areas (defense for Young and even offense, to a lesser extent) so it has to be hard. Plus, Young has hardly shown himself to be particularly welcoming to change in the past, although he eventually acquiesces and does it, after a good bit of bitching. Napoli will be WAY more of a weapon in Arlington than Young. If used the right way, I could see .270, 30+ 90+ every season.

I will have to agree with you that trading Michael would be a step in the wrong direction. He is a valuable part of the Rangers organization. He has also been the face of the Rangers for the past 7 or 8 years. He might not be the best offensive 3rd baseman, but he is the heart of the Rangers.

I feelthe Napoli trade was a slap in the face for Michael. We don't need another infielder or catcher. We have Mitch Moreland, who showed up big during the playoffs, to play 1st. And Michael would be there if anything were to happen to Mitch. And we have Treanor and Torrealba behind the plate.

Although I bleed Rangers Red, I have a hard time understanding what Jon Daniels and Nolan Ryan are doing. We need pitching. I was thrilled when I read we had traded Francisco. He sat on the bench last year and didn't doa thing. He blew more save opportunities than he did save a game. I think Feliz was built to be an outstanding closer. His arm speed is phenomenal and I don't think I want to see that damaged by having to pitch 6, 7, or 8 innings. With Lee gone, Daniels and Ryan should have tried for Garza when they knew we weren't going to get Greinke. We have Wilson, Lewis, and maybe Hunter if he shows up..

And that's my Rangers rant for the day.

Other then dumping salary, trading Young for a bag of beans seems like a step back for the defending AL Champs.
In fact the Napoli deal was a step backwards too.... Especially if it means dumping the heart of the team in the process.... They need a Starter, and without Francisco they lost the flexibility to move Feliz to the rotation.
Puzzling ....
