Now back to regularly scheduled cur-world programming; And LO an Angel appeared and rescued the Mighty and Virtuous Blue Jays from the curse of the Well’s contract (signed in blood at the full moon; it was unbreakable by mortals hence the need for Angels). And LO the gods then decreed (for they were happy with little cur as he had completed 5 whole chapters and not bumped anyone off inadvertently this week at work); let there be Davis and let there be Podsednik and LO there was Davis & Podsednik. And the cur look around and said “It is good. It is very good. But one thing more O mighty deities of monkeys and men, one thing more. We need Pujols. I mean Albert Pujols! Not those other things! Here I’ll write it down; P-u-j-o-l-s. Pronounce the ‘j’ like an ‘h’. Well I didn’t make up the language! Now get rid of these sphincters and bring us Albert!” And the deities decreed “How bout we fix you up with Jessica Alba instead? That might be easier.” And the cur was happy. Very happy.

Podsednik doesn’t make the Jays better. He’s a redundant piece they didn’t need to add. All he does is make the players’ wives section better looking.

But let me understand this: The Blue Jays were able to unload one of the worst contracts in baseball for pennies, and got two valuable pieces in return as an added bonus. And you are thanking the baseball gods because the Jays signed Podsednik?

In no way, shape or form is a 342 OBP a good OBP for a top of the order hitter. A 320 OBP means you’re RARELY on base, and a 342 OBP isn’t good for a #2 hitter.

The significant difference between Davis and Pods, is that Davis plays good D in CF while Pods is crap in LF. You can’t get by with a 724 OPS if your D is garbage in LF.

Sadly this signing is meaningless as he shouldn’t make the team. Rivera is a better OF, and since Podesdnik doesn’t play CF/RF he isn’t even a good backup.

A very nice depth signing by the Jays. He and Davis bring much needed speed to the team. There should be a very interesting battle between Podsednik, Juan Rivera and Corey Patterson for 2 roster spots. I am not surprised that Rivera is thought to be on the trading block.

So, your comment means what? Jays’re better than I said? Ayup, I agree, they are. Check this out; Both are good guys. Both on the same team are better. First 2 batters right there. Now, based on this;
Podsednik’s stats from 2010;
.297/.342/.382 etc.
Davis 2010
.284 /.320 /.377 etc
its fair to say they’re on base a lot. With Davis leadoff and Podsednik 2nd, following those 2 guys is this unheard of guy; J. Bautista. He swings aaaaand BOOM! 3 run homer into the right field bleachers and the familiar understated trot round the bases, high five with Podsednik and Davis at home plate and strolls to his seat. Now he had a lot of practice with that trot last season but not as much as he would have like with the high fives at the plate. Yes, the baseball gods have been generous indeed.

They already have a version of Podsednik who is a better fielder, has a better stolen base success rate, and is five years younger in Rajai Davis.

I’m a Jays fan (they’re all I have left without the Expos). This is the kind of good news I’ve been waiting for all off season so I say:
Thank you baseball gods. The Jays needed this guy as much as he needed them. Now, baseball gods, one more small thing. Please let Albert Pujols go unsigned, make the Yankers implode financially (or Cashman’s progressing weirdness drive away all good players, no matter what the $$ incentive is) and all other USA based teams suffer just enough belt tightening to be unable to afford him. You sent and Angel to deliver us from Vernon Well’s contract, this little miracle will be as nothing compared to that.
