Three months to throw from “flat ground” brings them to mid-May. Then it’s been reported it will take roughly 6 weeks once he starts throwing from a mound to get into game shape. So that brings it to the end of June. Which is about “middle of the year.”

I think that is a reasonable timetable.

If the Mets really want to be a factor even in 2012 for a spot in the post season they need to think about jettison more then Perez salary. They should consider eating a good chunk of Santana’s and Bay’s salary and trying to move them for ML ready prospects or players already on another teams roster. Santana’s probably cooked for most of this year he’s not going to vest his 2014 option so including this year he’s owed about $75M for 2011/2013. My guess is the Mets would have to eat at least $40MM of that to move him. Bay is owed about $51MM for 2011/2013 assuming he doesn’t vest his 2014 option based on pas. My guess is the Mets would have to eat about $16MM of that number. Not a pleasant thought but considering the Mets current financial difficulties these salaries and their players performance are a drag on the team. Better to eat half of it and start over sooner rather then later.

You actually think the Mets are going to flip flop their 2010 record around. When every team in their own division got stronger and that’s who they play half their games against. I think you may be overly optimistic.

God’s honest, I’m thinking we may not see him this year. Even if he’s ready by July or August, if the team is 15 games under .500, why bring him back. Let him build up and come back fresh.
