The insert-muscle-here strain is a very common symptom of the NFL’s non-mandatory mandatory summer workouts. (Not that I care, but sometimes football gets in the way of my baseball media consumption).

Sure, 40 days left until opening day, why not take it easy, especially if you’re a veteran. Those of us who used to play sports, though admittedly never at an elite level, one of our “secret weapons” to compete against superior talent was to be in better physical condition. Hopefully the more talented player would wear down under the unrelenting physical pressure and we could eke out a victory, maybe. The Texas coaches will no doubt be alert to any rookies who might think Beltre’s example is one they can follow. His conditioning and stamina have never been an issue, so I doubt this will affect his season performance, and I also imagine this is going on in the other 29 camps as well.
