Decision coming on Miguel Cabrera’s status

Feb 24, 2011, 2:28 PM EST

Miguel Cabrera

Miguel Cabrera will arrive at Tigers camp in time to talk to the media at 4:30 p.m. EST this afternoon, and a Tigers spokesman said to expect “a decision” on the first baseman’s status then.

Cabrera has been away from camp after being arrested on DUI charges on Feb. 16. According to a Detroit News report, Cabrera’s agent, Fernando Cuza, met with Tigers brass for an hour on Wednesday evening. Cabrera was not in attendence.

The forthcoming “decision” could have something to do with an extended leave of absence for Cabrera. He’s been underdoing evaluation by MLB doctors and addiction specialists since the incident last week.

Miggy, reporting in the best shape of his life, is ready to play ball. “I hope my teammates will be ready to play as we contend for the pennant. Our club is stocked with talent and we will be very competitive.” Translantion provided by Glen Fiddich Translations, serving North America.

The first Miggy interview should be a good one. Somebody’s got some ‘splainin’ to do. I wonder if it’ll be ‘Miggy being, Miggy, man”?
