Mike Stanton left yesterday’s game with a strained right quadriceps muscle and told reporters this afternoon that he expects to miss “at least two weeks.”

Manager Edwin Rodriguez told Joe Frisaro of MLB.com that the Marlins’ training staff is “going to wait two or three more days” before re-evaluating Stanton’s status, with Frisaro writing that “the team is being extra cautious.”

Expectations are extremely high for Stanton after he bashed 43 homers between the minors and majors last season, including 22 homers in 100 games for the Marlins as a 20-year-old rookie who skipped Triple-A.

Just what we didn’t need. Here’s hoping that when the Iron Giant comes back, he doesn’t try to overcompensate for the time he’s missed by lunging like a snapping turtle at every pitch he sees. This is the season he’s going to need to define himself a strike zone and learn some serious plate discipline. What we don’t want is the Feesh’s answer to Dave Kingman.

Damn injuries are killing my fantasy teams, Wainwright, stewart, utley, stanton. Have you guys ever heard of stretching?
