Nah. The Cubs will pick up Ivan DeJesus, Jr. in the Rule 5 draft and then trade for Sandberg. No need for the aging overpaid shortstop this time, though.

It’ll get done. Amaro knows everyone in Philly is in love with Charlie. This relationship can’t end in anything but Charlie Manuel retiring on his own terms in a couple of years. Anything else would be uncivilized. He’s got a couple good years left in the tank.

Charlie has managed this team for six years, and in that time they’ve never had a losing season, and in fact have never finished less than 2nd in the division. in the past 4 years no team in MLB has won more regular season OR playoff games. He’s got 4 straight division titles (possiblly 5 straight this season). And it’s only the last couple that their payroll has skyrocketed. When they won in 2008 they were I think 10th or 11th in payroll at 98million. He’s considered a bumpkin by many, but really, what more could anyone ask for from their manager?

I think I read that he’s looking for a 2 year @ 4 mil per extension, and then he’ll retire. I’m guessing that’s why they brought Sandberg in to manage the AAA team, he’ll be the heir apparent.

The extension should get done no problem.

For the love of God…just pay this man! First of all, he is the PERFECT manager for this team….secondly, all he has done since he got here is WIN! He deserves to be paid as a top 5 manager! Come on RAJ…you had no problem giving Howard 125 mil (not complaining)…you had no problem signing cliff lee, the best available starter on the market (still not complaining)…..toss chuck a 3 year deal at 4 million per…and let’s get ready for opening day!!!! Let’s go Phils! We can win 105-110 games in our sleep!

Charlie is a good baseball man and therefore will be rewarded by the Phillies. The media is making this a much bigger deal than it needs to be. If the Phillies don’t give Uncle Charlie an extension, the Baseball Gods will surely punish the organization. All hail the Baseball Gods.
