I'm having too much fun watching this bunch of bufones misspelling Scrooge McLoria's name to want to help them belabor the obvious issues of traffic, ticket prices and fan motivation this morning. Anyway, we've got a whole season of Joeprodolsharklife Stadium to go before we spend a prefatory winter seeing how many individual fans, rather than the corporate customers who are buying up Diamond Club seats, will buy tickets as well.

In any case there's nothing about the primarily residential neighborhood into the middle of which Macondo Banana Massacre Field has been plopped that even vaguely resembles Wrigleyville. Even if you were to hike the fifteen or so blocks up to Calle Ocho to get to Little Havana, you'd be in a neighborhood largely devoid of clubs and bars - mainly discount pharmacies, cafe Cubanos with their ventanas dispensing cortaditas of mega-caffeine, croquets de jamon and guyaba pasteles. All of this is fine, of course, if you've run out of tampons for your pitbull and need a pick-me-up because the upstairs neighbors kept you awake all night with creaking bedsprings in service to the Pope, and those pasteles will surely put a smile on your endocrinologist's face. Perhaps ten years will see a metamorphosis of the surrounding streets to serve the dozens of fans emerging from the stadium after the sixth or seventh innings in search of the mythical Metrorail or light rail line the city papas (which you can read as a translinguistic pun linking "father" to spuds) have been promising us for decades. But at the moment, it's a horrible neighborhood to plunk a baseball stadium, even one that looks more like the crashed space jockey's star freighter from Alien than a stadium at all.

henry3rd (above post) Who will they be going to see? If Mike stanton turns into what they say he can, thats all it will take. Who wont come to watch a power phenom blast home runs if in fact thats what happens .And they do have some other good young talent now and coming and a pitching staff that could be very good. And i forgot hanRam. No this isnt going to be Wrigley. This team is much better and they have something the Cubs dont...... talent and potential.

But why would they go through all this and not make sure the place is user friendly. People hate traffic with a passion. And they dont want to deal with something they deal with going to work everyday. It will get old quick. Its one thing to have a traffic problem and then not to have public transprtation to the park so one doesnt have to drive is going to be a problem all in itself to. Remember. Drinking and driving (Mr. Laurie) is against the law. Its just so much money to waste and not have everything be right. Why would you just brush issues like those to the side.

LOL! Another Wrigley? Wrigley ain't anywhere near a "Little Havana" type neighborhood (i.e., a yuppie destination), nor is the site of the new Marlins playpen lined with yuppie bars and restaurants (and that historically takes years to develop... the neighborhood surrounding Wrigley Field has had almost 100 year head start). That's not meant by the way to be any kind of a slam on Little Havana; quite the contrary... I think that that's where the "core" following of the Marlins will eventually develop from. It sure ain't coming from all the old retirees that populate Ft. Lauderdale where the current Marlins stadium is closer too. The real question is, "will the Marlins wind up pricing the surrounding potential fan base out of the market?".

Any new ballpark is going to generate a lot of ticket sales, at least for the first 2-3 years or so. The bigger question is whether Laurie is going to continue to simply pocket the revenue sharing money or make a serious commitment to building a team that's something other than another one year and done wonder (he's of course done that twice now). I've been to the site before and I think that the "access" thing is overblown, but parking sure could be an ongoing headache.

Typical South Florida fans. Can you spell front runners? Let the Marlins get off to a slow start and the telephone lines at sports talk radio shows in Miami will be buzzing just like they are now with the Miami Weeps! These folks will arrive at the game late and leave early to avoid traffic. And once they encounter those traffic problems in Little Havana watch how quickly they will rethink buying tickets for future games.

Plus what are they buying tickets for? This team has been a disgrace for years and they are not going to turn it around in one season. The 2012 season is a mirage and only in Chicago's Wrigley Park do people come out just to see the stadium not in South Florida. Here they want to see competitive baseball.

Plus that idiot Jeffrey Lurie is still the owner and That Three Card Monte charatcer Sampson is still the GM and that's not going to change. Ask them how they hoodwinked the City of Miami into building them a new stadium while they cried poverty and at the same time taking revenue sharing money from other wealthier owners, i. e. Yankees, Red Sox and Anaheim while pocketing a tidy profit in the millions? What a bunch of clowns.

Good for them for finally being able to sell tickets. It will be good to actually have two professional sports teams in Miami with some excitement. Heat and Marlins should be getting the headlines instead of the over hyped team from Miami Gardens. The Dolphins are a joke team and have a long way to go before they deserve the sports fans of Miami's money. Heat and Marlins have won titles , Dolphins just jack up prices for fans to watch a terrible product. Can't wait for the new stadium and hope they host lots events other than baseball. Being able to catch an event than swing over to South Beach will be great.
