Those red streaks = phlebitis or vein inflammation. There’s a real risk of abscess which means muscle damage, contracture of the muscle/joint nearest the scarring, and risk of systemic infection. A little more information would be nice; if this is a staph infection the kid could be in real trouble if it’s the flesh eating kind. I think I’ll reserve ‘nothing serious’ once we know a bit more about it.
