So Ichiro donates $1m, Matsui donates half a mil, and Kenshin Kawakami - who will make $7m to report to the AA-Mississippi Braves (unless he is mercifully traded before then) - donated $50k? C'mon Kenshin, at least donate more than what you paid for your Lamborghini Murcielago or Maserati Gran Turismo S!

Out here in SF, the land of the San Andreas fault (and the lesser known but more active Hayward fault), we keep talking about an 8.9 earthquake (the size of the Sendai quake.) It's really unimaginable. The Loma Prieta quake, which occurred during the '89 Giants/A's series, was 7.1. An 8.9 is almost 100 times as strong. All the localities built on fill (Treasure Island, Foster City, among others) would liquefy, most frame buildings would collapse, etc. The one "good" thing is that the epicenter would probably be under land, as opposed to the ocean, so the likelihood of a tsunami is less.

Since I've lived here almost 7 years now, the strongest quake I've felt was a 4.7. That scared the s**t out of me, almost literally. The gap in strength between that and Loma Prieta is about 100, and between 4.7 and 8.9 is about 10,000. Unimaginable.

Good for him. It makes me feel (a bit) better about humanity to see stuff like this.

Now, how to get the Japanese government to stop lying about the seriousness of this nuclear stuff.... Or are they really incompetent enough not to know what the hell is actually going on? It's frightening either way.
