Yesterday Cardinals pitcher Miguel Batista hit Nationals’ infielder Ian Desmond, setting off a little brouhaha. Desmond wasn’t too steamed about it, though:
“It was intentional, but Miggy throws like Miss Iowa. It’s no big deal.”
I had forgotten about the Miss Iowa/Batista stuff. Fun times!
But it’s a new year now, and if you’re curious, this is the current Miss Iowa. This, in contrast, is Miguel Batista.
If I was filling out a pitching staff, I’d be inclined to go with Miss Iowa. Chemistry matters.

It’s clearly not him. He didn’t use the article to be a mouthpiece for the owners and belittle the players and their union.

When we converted from Movable Type to WordPress last year, for some reason a ton of posts that I did came over as being written by Florio. Some settings issue, I’m sure.
Florio has written one post for this site — something on the Roger Clemens indictment last year — but all of the others are mine.

I’m not sure what’s going on in Iowa but I like it. Clearly I should have been reading this post from last year; what wit and charm! That Florio guy sure can write…:)
