I think it's definitely a risk deciding to put a guy with no big league experience at second base but really what other choice do they have? All of the other options the Mets have really aren't that impressive and while asking Easmus to duplicate his .397OBP this year may be asking too much, his strikeout to walk ratio suggests he's got at least a good chance to stick in the majors and be far more productive than any other option. I like the move, Riccardi's got to know about this guy and while it's strange the Jays didn't think to protect him he wouldn't be the first so I like the move.

Disagree with fuggles7 - Kent was moved to get David Cone, who contributed to the Jays winning the World Series in 1992. You have to give up talent (or potential talent) to get talent. In the case of Young, they intended to pick up a pitcher they thought could help get back to the post-season but alas the pitcher was Esteban Loaiza. Same idea as the Cone move but no where near as successful. Mistake was on the evaluation of the incoming talent as opposed to that which they were giving up.

people seem to believe he can hit well enough to warrant a starting mi spot. and talent evaluators take into account numbers inflation in places like the pcl. the real question seems to be, is can he be at least minimally functional at 2b, especially in range and at turning 2? they'll pull him late if up on d for chu.

I dunno about that. I remember, as a Jays fan myself, a couple of middle infielders named Jeff Kent and Michael Young who the Jays didn't think would amount to much either.

I forgot to mention that he played in the hitters paradise of Las Vegas most of last season. The 2010 numbers are suspect. The Jays would have protected him if they thought that he would become a decent major league player. It will be interesting to see how well he performs.
