Daisuke Matsuzaka has donated $1 million to the Japanese relief efforts via the Red Cross, according to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe.

Last week Ichiro Suzuki reportedly donated 100 million yen (approximately $1.2 million) and Hideki Matsui donated 50 million yen (approximately $600,000) to help support their home country following the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

Several major-league teams have also donated significant amounts of money and have also organized donation-matching programs for fans interested in giving as well.

    And if you don’t feel like donating you can maybe do what this guy does;

    At least there’s one positive thing he’s done in his life.He hosed the Red Sox for 101 million total package.You think they would like to do that one over again?

      Wow, nice backhanded compliment for a guy who just gave more to charity in a day then you will in your entire life.

        Call it a backhanded compliment, but it is what it is, They thought he(Dice-K) was something special and he obviously isn’t. Too bad,so sad.

        pisano; let’s lay off the baseball for a moment. This post was about a good deed. Tip a the hat to Mr. Dice K is definitely in order. It’s sad if he ruined your baseball pool or something but he just did a deed in the real world that counts for lives. I’ll take that any day.

        Why mention it at all? What does it have to do with his donation, the subject of this post? Is it so critical that you not pass up a single opportunity to needle Red Sox fans about his contract?

    cur68….you’re absolutely correct it was a great contribution and I wish we could all be so generous. The Japanese people are enduring a horrific situation and my heart goes out to them.

    I knew I was a little buzzed, when I said to myself “why would Dice Clay donate a million to Japan?’ Time for another beer.
