Backup catchers don’t impact playoff races unless your main catcher goes out for an extended period of time, and if your main catcher does go down to injury, big spending teams like the Yankees, Phillies and Red Sox would simply just go out and trade for a replacement with a small market club.

What’s far more interesting is the likely upcoming flurry of posts from Yankee Honk uyf about all of the breaking speculation as to who Elizabeth Taylor left her fortune to. As we’ve seen today on a different Yankee topic, uyf is totally smitten over what dead rich people do with their money, particularly when they have multiple kids as potential heirs just like King George did!

Why not go with Martin and throw Posada in there as backup until Cervelli gets back? Posada can’t throw well any more, but he’s not exactly inexperienced at calling games. Having him catch 8 or 10 games won’t kill him or the team.
Unless of course Martin is hurt too.
