MLB isn’t as nuts as the NCAA Tournament. But there will be surprises both good and bad.

Justin Smoak gets incredibly lucky and has a BABIP of .477, leading to a monster year that turns the Mariners from an otherwise mediocre team with a horrible offense into a completely mediocre team. Everyone else in the division struggles, and the Mariners take it with 84 wins. Then King Felix starts 11 games in the postseason and wins them all.

I gave you a thumbs up there, Chris, but you neglected to say that Lidge will WALK the bases loaded with no outs, and then give up a long fly ball to right which will be pulled back in to the Bank by WS hero/MVP and soon-to-be too-expensive-to-sign Ben Francisco.

By the way, the NL will win the All-Star Game so the Phightins take it on the home sod? Nice.

I pick Philly over Bahhhhstan. And regardless of the fact that I’m a fanboy, I just feel that pitching will dominate and the under rated Phillies O will turn heads this season behind these aces. No they aren’t an offensive threat like the NYY and Bahhhhstan, but if any rotation can quiet all of their bats in a series I have to say it’s Philly.

Lee and Hamels miss significant time due to injury, Rollins falls off a cliff and Howard continues his slow-but-steady decline. Phillies win 89 games and lose the division by 1 game to the surging Marlins, led by Josh Johnson’s Cy Young year.

Greinke is solid, though unspectacular, but it’s enough that the Brewers take the Central with 88 wins, with the Cardinals 3 games back.

Rockies end up with the most wins in the NL, 91, enough to take the West by a game over the Giants, who win the wildcard.

In the American League, the Yankees pitching falters out of the gate, and mid-season acquisitions don’t pan out. Jeter and A-Rod continue their decline, Teixeira is injured for half the season, and Cano returns to earth. Yankees still manage to win 85 games, but are never really in the race. Blue Jays young pitching is the surprise of the year, as they get 125 starts from their top 4, and win 92 games and the wild-card. Boston meets expectations and blows away the field, with 97 wins.

In the Central, the Twins are led by a full year of A+ pitching from Liriano, and take the division with 90 wins. In the west, Oakland over-performs expectations and takes the division with 87 wins.

If I were to go to Vegas and pick one team in the hopes of winning a big bucket of cash, I would go with the Brewers. Things would have break a certain way, but they have a solid team and could be this year’s Giants.

But if you were to ask me who would actually be the favorite, I skew just a little to the Red Sox. The Phils just have too many injuries questions and I am a bit of a doubter that all four aces will be good all the time. In a short series, I think the Sox could come out ahead.

I went with the Athletics. Even though they’ll have trouble scoring I went with young effective pitching, and suprise

The Royals over the Reds in 7, Jeff Franceour hits a walkoff triple in game 7 off of Aroldis Chapman thus completing hitting for the cycle in game 7 and winning the World Series MVP……and somewhere, Craig goes into an unexplained coma………

nah, just kidding, Phils all the way, i’m going with over Boston…….Rollins hits double digits in steals, HR, doubles, triples, thus responding to the decline drum beaters…….Howard earns his contract this year, and Utley one ups the bloody sock in the series by cutting his leg off at the knee, replacing it with a tee, and setting the record batting average in a World Series

Three clear favorites: Yanks, Phils, Sox. Yankees are pretty old, and the back of their rotation too shaky. Even if they do add someone, they’ve got no room for an injury. The Phils’ rotation is absurd, but they already have injury issues, and two of their best hitters (Howard, Rollins) are in decline. The Sox have questions at the back end of their rotation, too, but it also has a much higher potential upside than the Yanks. Their bullpen is solid, their defense will be good, and that lineup is a mofo. Sox.

Phillies in 7 over the Red Sox. The Big Piece will hit a bomb in the bottom of the 8th off Daniel Bard(new closer since the mid-season trade of Pap-smear). Brad Lidge will close it down with a 36 pitch save in the top of the 9th, loading the bases and then striking out Big Papi on a slider a foot outside and in the dirt. That will be the last image of Papi’s fine career.
