I am a white, middle class income female, and I choose to sit in the left field pavilion. I park outside the lots and have a 15 minute walk between my car and the stadium. I go to about 20 dodger games a year and I have never felt unsafe. I went to opening day, and yes, although the crowd was rowdy and the beer was flowing, the security teams were a LARGE presence inside the stadium. I thought they were quick to handle any possible incidents. Obviously, the parking lot security is lacking. Obviously, I hope they catch the guys who performed this senseless, abhorrent violence, which makes all dodger fans look like thugs. But I think anyone who feels unsafe inside the stadium must not have very much experience with sporting events.

Remarkable. I knew a comment like this was certain to bring out the ole PC brigade. Now as a Mexican American, i can safely attest to the fact that i have NEVER been confused for a gang member or a thug. It's all about presentation. Now people with shaven heads, tattoos and menacing countenances do all this not because 'they're born that way' but because they want to project a menacing and tough image. And thus if you want to be seen as a menace then you need to own all the consequences of that. Which would include being profiled at Dodgers stadium and being routinely pulled over by cops.

Dodger Stadium now represent the NEW Los Angeles . You have the Rich sitting in the 10% of the stadium that are good seats that include reserved parking so you dont have to mingle with the gang members, and the other 90% of the stadium is filled with "poor" hispanic gang members! Middle class Americans cant afford to live in Los Angeles or go to Dodger games!!

MLB executives need to do to the Dodgers what SOCCER executives do around the world! If your fans are too dangerous or rowdy, the next game you play there will be NO fans allowed in the stands! This happens in Mexico and Argentina on a regular basis, and it would teach the DODGERS a lesson!! Provide security! The Next game between the Giants and the Dodgers in Los Angeles should be played in an empty stadium!!! That would send the STRONG message that the Dodgers "NEW" fans are used to and need to see!!

I used to go to Dodger Stadium 4-6 times a year. Not anymore.

Admittedly, I'm a Giants fan, and it used to be a good time bantering back and forth with the Dodger blue. About 5-6 years ago things started to change, though I'm not sure why. What was friendly banter became food and drink pelting the back of my head, and if I turned around I would be greeted with "wanna do something about it?" Calling security to deal with the thugs only aggravated the thugs that weren't escorted out. After being followed to my car by three idiots looking for a fight a few years ago I'm done. I had to lock my family in the car while these thugs rocked the vehicle and harassed us while we waited for the entire hour long process of exiting the parking lot (and no security in the parking lot anywhere).

I've been to parks all over this country, lots of great fans. Wish I could say the same for my local park. I'd rather drive to Anaheim.

It's one thing to be a fan of an opposing team and get "booed" ~ quite another to be an opposing fan and get your brains knocked out. For you to say you'd "never" consider Dodger Stadium dangerous is naive at best.

i have a ticket plan in the left field pavilion at dodger stadium and go to about 30-40 games a year. i feel that people who are looking for trouble will find trouble at dodger stadium, especially in the pavilions and the lower reserve. i dont see much blue on blue violence, its usually fans of other teams who know the left field pavilion reputation and think they are tough. they try to get the crowd going by popping their jersey or chanting for their team. this never sits well with left field fans and people will throw peanuts and hot dog wrappers but nothing that will ever cause any serious damage. ive never been to wrigley field but i feel that the left field experience would match up simliar to the wrigley bleachers experience since it feels like a party in left field with very knowledgable fans. we always get on the left fielder and start chants. as far as the race issue i notice that many people feel that any latino in LA gear is a thug and left field is probably 60-75 percent latino. as a latino this never bothers me but i could see how people would feel uncomfortable, whether or not thats right is a different conversation. overall if youre a fan of the opposing team at dodger stadium expect to get boo'd but i would never say that dodger stadium is dangerous.

Dodger Stadium; Enter At Your Own Risk! On game night Dodger Stadium is the most dangerous place to be in the city! As soon as you enter the parking lot until you sit down, civilized Americans encounter for the first time uncivilized gang members! You have to deal with drunk low life who swear, harass, and assault anyone they dont like! Its like being in a soccer stadium in Mexico where you only see young thugs in the stands and not women or children!
So you don't agree with someone getting beaten into a coma, but you agree that it is OK for home fans to berate any visiting fan to the point of violence if the visiting fan is, you know, being a fan and supporting their team.
The upper decks at the ravine are a less civil, potentially more dangerous atmosphere than the field level seats. I've heard numerous fans I didn't otherwise know or speak to joke about the rowdiness and sometimes disturbing violence of the fans in the upper decks. Last year, I also saw arrests made there over brief, violent altercations--more than I saw at Yankee stadium in comparable numbers of visits during the 1990s.

All of that is subjective, though, and readily dismissible.

However, the current debate over Dodgers Stadium safety begs attention to the intersection of Dodgers and L.A. gang culture. The interlocking L.A. insignia is a now-well-established trope in gang parlance. It's flashed as a gang sign; it's among the most common prison and gang tattoos. The gangs it's most-readily affiliated with change upon occasion, but creeps have been co-opting the otherwise-benign branding for decades. I know this happens to some extent in most major cities, but the problem is especially pronounced in Los Angeles.

It's easy to see--even on television broadcasts, but especially in person--that large numbers in attendance at Dodgers game have little or no interest in the game itself, and quite a lot more investment in their memberships in groups that promote violence and other garbage that doesn't belong at ballgames.

Hopefully, Los Angeles will once again have a football team soon, and it will siphon off some of that cultural detritus. Of course, I'd prefer if these social trends would simply reverse, as opposed to shifting elsewhere, but what I've read and heard from friends who work with these sorts of things is that gang affiliation has been on the rise in Los Angeles for about ten years, and gang violence has risen sharply since the expiration of the Brady bill. So, I suspect things will get worse before they get better.

I go to Dodger Stadium several times a year, and it is easily the worst experience of any MLB park. The fans are part of the problem (beach balls, throwing things at people that take beach balls out of play, cursing, etc.), but I don't feel unsafe while inside the stadium (I take my Cubs cap off when I walk to the car, though).

My biggest problem is with the way the Dodgers run the place. I am not the type to send complaint letters, but I've done that with the Dodgers. Two examples:

1) I went to the same-day ticket sales booth 20 minutes before the first pitch and had to wait 30 minutes to get to the front of the line (only two windows out of ~five were open), and when I got to the front I said, "Give me your cheapest available ticket." The ticket guy gave me two options, one for $45 and one for $60. I said, "Those are your cheapest tickets?" and he said "Yeah." After a minute of vigorous discussion, I finally was able to buy an upper-deck ticket for less than $15. I found it disgusting that I had to haggle to get a ticket.
2) At another game I had field-level tickets and was getting ready to watch the first pitch of the game when a Dodgers photographer walked down the aisle and started taking pictures of people (and then he let them know where they could purchase the pictures later). The photographer had the family in the row in front of me stand up for the picture. All this was going on through the first 3-5 pitches of the game. I'm actually not sure how many pitches I missed because I couldn't see anything with people standing in front of me at the request of the Dodgers employee.

FYI, I never got a response from the Dodgers after I complained via email.
