Chase Utley could begin jogging “in the next couple days”

General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. provided an update on the status of Chase Utley‘s knee injury, telling Ken Rosenthal of that the second baseman could be cleared to begin jogging “in the next couple of days.”

According to Amaro his return “could happen fast” once Utley is running without problems, but so far he’s mostly been limited to working out in a pool and the GM admitted that “it might take a while for him to get there.”

There’s still no timetable for Utley’s return and he’ll need a minor-league rehab assignment before coming off the disabled list whenever it happens, so rejoining the Phillies’ lineup at some point in May seems like the best-case scenario right now. Or as Amaro put it: “We’re willing to be very patient with him. I want him for July, August, September, hopefully October.”

    Best case, May? oh….

A couple of weeks ago, Chase said he hoped to be back by the All-Star break. So, yeah, this can be considered progress (maybe, hopefully, . . . )

No worries, Jonny. The Phab Phive (I saw a thing on ESPN the other day about 91-93 Michigan hoops) and Ryno and the new-ish bash brothers will hold down the Phort while he’s gone.

Yeah, I know. It just doesn’t feel the same without him. Should we send him a fruit basket? 😉

Nah…a cheesesteak with all the fixins. And a case of Yuengling…?

What does “could begin jogging” mean. Heck, I could begin jogging too. I’m probably not going to but I could.

I say let him rest. No sense rushing back this early in the season. Especially with the way things have been going in Philly. If the team starts to look like they cant survive without Utley fine get him back as soon as possible. But if they keep hitting and pitching theres no reason they should risk hampering his performance in September and October for a luxory in April and May.

My fantasy teams be damned they can take the hit.

What’s the point of rushing him back? It’s not as if the NL Least is going to be competitive. With this pitching staff, there is no need to bring Chase Utley back less than 100%. If he is back after the All-Star break, then that would be just fine.
