The Giants are sticking with Aubrey Huff in right field

Aubrey Huff

With a day off to reflect on Aubrey Huff‘s trainwreck of a weekend in right field against the Dodgers, Bruce Bochy has decided to stay the course. The lineup for this evening’s game in San Diego:

CF: Andres Torres
2B: Freddy Sanchez
RF: Aubrey Huff
C: Buster Posey
3B: Pablo Sandoval
LF: Pat Burrell
1B: Brandon Belt
SS: Miguel Tejada
P: Madison Bumgarner

On the one hand, Petco Park’s outfield is cavernous, so this could be even worse than the Dodgers series. On the other hand, how many Padres hitters can actually get the ball out to the outfield?

OUCH!! Thats low Craig. Did someone pee in your Cheerios this morning? As a Padres fan I just wish I could argue with it…

Yeah, but the Padres proved, once again, that they don’t need to hit the ball out of the infield to win.

Huff played RF over the weekend like an elderly couple on the way to the early bird buffet with one blinker on; wandering aimlessly before crashing randomly wall.
RF is far tougher to play than many people realize and Huff, to be generous, was a very average defensive left fielder in the past. The sad truth the Giants don’t have anyone better to stick out there unless you consider the out machine that is Aaron Rowand but then again Rowand would at least be competent defensively.
