Not when you’ve got a new manager trying to get his players to be accountable and play to a consistently high standard. If he’d booted one, ok, but he screwed another right after and examples need to be set.

Gotta love Jack Wilson. He’s always been a stand up guy. Hated to see him leave the ‘Burgh. Would rather have him manning short than Cendeno any day.

Fair point, I had forgotten about Ackley and the Mariners’ plans to have him come up this season, so that’s a good reason for the move, but for the present they’re still removing a a guy with premium talent at short for a guy who’s his inferior in the field and at the plate. Then again it’s not like the Mariners are realistically going to be contending this year, so it’s probably wise for them to be making more forward-looking moves.

Last year was because Lopez was awful at 2nd and the hope was the Figgins could remember how to play there and the offense would balance out (obviously, that failed). This year, they have Ackley waiting in AAA to take over 2nd, but didn’t have anyone to cover the position til his call-up in June/July and didn’t want to invest long-term. Wilson will not be with the team next year, so moving him there was the best option. Moving Ryan to 2nd for 2 months would’ve been pointless.

for the life of me I can’t understand why the Mariners insist on switching infielders around from their normal positions. Last year it was switching Lopez and Figgins and now Ryan, who may be younger but by all defensive metrics is a worse fielder is forcing Wilson, arguably one of the most talented defensive shortstops to a position he’s never played and it makes zero sense. I know the Mariners’ management has a reputation for being savvy especially with defensive metrics but nevertheless the results thus far have been underwhelming to say the least
