Baseball "fans" that are looking to see football scores attached to baseball games aren't really fans. Once upon a time 40 HRs in a season was considered a monster season. They had games that were called "pitchers' duels". Guys weren't prima donnas and actually laid down a bunt when requested. The only thing to come out of the steroid era, to me, was showing that some players are stupid enough to lie before Congress.

I totally agree with you gmsingh! The "shamed roid boys" should be considered, along with fellow creep liar Petey Rose, for their own separate wing of baseball's HOF, called the Hall of Shame Wing. After all, the baseball hall of fame created a separate wing for women's baseball, didn't it?

Unfortunately there's no denying that the Sosa-Mc Guire home run race pulled baseball out of the very deep ditch that the militant wing of the owners created when they cancelled the 1994 World Series and turned tens (if not hundreds), of thousands of former paying customers off. Just like the 1919 Black Sox scandal, like it or not, it DID play an important role in baseball history.

I hate the bald faced liars like Clemens, Sosa, Bonds and Palmeiro, but their stats are still their stats. They all belong in the Hall of Shame wing of the HOF though for being such bald faced liars.

While the writers will not vote Manny in the veteran's likely will, for two reasons.

1. By the time he gets around to the veteran's committee there will be enough time to give the entire PED era more perspective. There will be far more known about just how pervasive PEDs were so Manny's actions won't seem that outlandish.

2. And, by the time he gets to the veteran's committee, there likely will be a couple on the committee that in fact used PEDs themselves, whether it's known or not, so they'll likely be more understanding.

While the writers will preach about the sanctity of the game and how Manny not only cheated with PEDs and was a essentially a lazy selfish clown the players will consider him one of them. In the end I doubt they will judge him as harshly. Eventually he'll get into the HOF but it may well be 30 years from now not the five or six that it would have been had he not failed two PED test and been linked to a third.

I agree that the writers will not elect Manny to the HOF. The veteran's committee has done some strange and wonderous things in the past, and they don't get a look at a player until his time on the ballot has expired. 20 years is an awful long time, and my crystal ball is kind of clowdy about what people will think in 20 years.

Bobby Jenks today said it all:

BOBBY JENKS ON MANNY: ‘YOU GET CAUGHT, YOU’RE AN IDIOT’	04.08.11 at 6:30 pm ET
By Kirk Minihane

Bobby Jenks was teammates with Manny Ramirez in Chicago last year. On Friday — a day Ramirez retired after being told of an issue that arose under MLB’s drug-testing policy — Jenks recalled Ramirez as “a great teammate” and “a really good guy”.

But when asked for his thoughts on Ramirez potentially failing a drug test for the second time, Jenks chose words that weren’t as complimentary.

“I look at it as this. You do it, you get caught, you’re an idiot. If you do it again you’re a dumbass,” said Jenks. “I mean, it’s sad to see. One of the greatest hitters, or one of them, to make the same mistake twice, same bad choice. And within a year and a half of each other? I don’t know, you know?”
************
Bottom line? The dumbass just cost himself any shot that he may have had with the writers to get elected into baseball's hall of fame (and I agree, because this throws a big pall over just how long he was using PED's).
