Just so I’m clear on this. If we were making a list of unacceptable behavior by a ballplayer, actively trying to get a hometown fan removed from the stadium is right next to failing to move a runner? Does that seem off to anyone else?

For those who might not know, Pride and Hoy were deaf baseball players. Both Pride and Hoy proved that it’s possible to play MLB ball without being able to hear anything — they overcame that obstacle, but it remains the case that not being able to hear IS an obstacle on the field.

I’ve read elsewhere that Bradley is only wearing earplugs when he’s at bat, and if so he’s not the first guy to have done this, and I don’t see a problem with this.

Waving arms works for lazy fly balls, but not for anything more challenging. You can’t wave your arms over the head while running at top speed. Acknowledged, it’s hard for outfielders to hear each other, but it’s going to get harder when the left fielder is wearing ear plugs.

By waving his arms, the same as they do now when the crowd is too loud for them to hear each other. It’s not as though outfielders have never had to deal with difficulty hearing each other before.

If a fly ball is hit to left-center field, how does the M’s center fielder call off an ear-plugged Bradley to make the play? Semaphore flags?

He’ll stay on the roster for the year. He’s not really blocking anyone from the minors and is in the final year anyways. Not that it matters for 2011. M’s pretty much have their ticket for the basement stamped.
