IE: in this case, the USA dude was on his way out of the park, arm-barred someone (I wont even call it a shove, it wasn’t anything crazy) then faced the tazer like a man, which made this cop feel the need to beat him while he was standing there not resisting. If the cop was better at his job, and this guy was such a threat, he should have been restrained at his seat, and escorted to the parking lot, then fined or whatever, and released. Because the cop handled this so stupidly, the guy will probably be able to sue, and this guy could and should lose his job.

With an attitude like yours I’d imagine you’re a phrenologist’s wet dream.

And, notdumb, I’m interested in the source for your statistic of “roughly half of all cops are pathetic insecure punks that desire power to exact revenge on a type of person they resent.” Please inform us of that. Thanks.

The guy getting beat is only a victim because what the police did was wrong and probably illegal. But I’m sure he’s an asshole who’s given out worse beatings in his life, so the fact that he’ll probably wind up with a settlement out of this means there really and truly is no justice in the world.

We need to withold judgment of the people who lay their lives on the line every friggin’ day trying to keep the rest of us safe—at least until the whole story has come out.

The cop reacted to Butterbean shoving the guy at the bottom of the stairs, thereby clearly making him a threat to all in his raging path. Sure, the guy he shoved was undoubtedly taunting him, but Butterbean wasn’t in the position to escalate anything without surely realizing that he was just making himself a target for the cops (who I think felt threatened by just his sheer girth alone and even moreso if he had been drinking heavily).

Judging (and admittedly that’s what I’m doing), from the sound of the crowd directly above him from the section that he had vacated, my bet is that he must have been potty mouthing one or more of the fans in his section, again throwing his considerable girth around.

As I’m sure most of us have, I’ve been caught in sections at sporting events where I either feel threatened or am at the very least seriously annoyed at one or more loudmouths, but what I’ve always done is gotten up and left and moved to other seats. At PNC, there are always as good or better seats that you can move to and if challenged by ushers and/or security people, I’ve never once not been allowed to relocate when I tell them why I got up to move.

The mistake that the cops made was in not cuffing him first before escorting him out of the stadium. Had they cuffed him right where he sat, they could have quickly nipped the whole thing in the bud and not had it escalate into whopping him the way that they did.

And don’t we ALL know by our respective ages by now that most cops are power hungry a-holes? Apparently Butterball didn’t and hopefully has learned his lesson as to how NOT to behave in public!

3) Guy gets tased, clubbed, cuffed and dragged out

I prefer my nights at the ballpark to not go quite like that.

The right thing may not have been saying “Oooh” to the police when he was ordered to move.

First of all, that was in a parking lot, not in the stands. Second, that’s more a Los Angeles gang problem, NOT a baseball problem. Third, one incident across the country should not give cops the right to beat down anyone in any stadium.

It depends on a lot of factors. When his hands are down by his waist and he’s moving forward, he’s not posing a threat. He stopped when the officer said something to him. Had he started moving when the officers pulled out their tazers, they would have claimed he was running. He did the right thing and stood still… and still was brutalized.

In addition to too many big city ballparks having ticket prices that are way too high (like $60 for a lousy unreserved seat on a bench at Wrigley Field for “premium” games), this is another good reason not to go to the ballpark, as without season tickets, as the cheaper the seats the more your odds go way up of getting stuck next to an imbecile like this or some guy who feigns not speaking English as his kids run totally out of control.
