Sidelined since the end of spring training with back soreness, Pirates catcher Chris Snyder is scheduled to return from the disabled list in time for tonight’s game.

He’ll take over as Pittsburgh’s primary catcher, pushing Ryan Doumit back into an outfielder/catcher bench role and Jason Jaramillo to Triple-A.

Doumit started eight of the first 11 games behind the plate in Snyder’s absence and the Pirates were no doubt hoping the playing time would convince another team to take his contract off their hands after an offseason spent unsuccessfully shopping him. He hit just .241 with a .680 OPS, but did throw out three of nine steal attempts.
