Pal, it takes me about 30 seconds a day to chart rainouts on my calendar. That’s it. Now I realize for someone apparently as mentally challenged as your post makes you appear to be that might be an all day endeavorer for you, but it isn’t for me.

WHAT strategy exactly goes away with the DH? The over hyped, over rated “La Russa double switch”. I could do without see Aaron Miles hit just as I can do just fine without seeing 99% of the pitchers try to hit too.

You want strategy? Become a fan and participant in a chess league.

Only 1 Met reliever pitched twice in Thursday’s DH (2 total innings) so with yesterday off, their pen should be in fine shape for today. And while playing 4 games in a 3-day span is rough, A) they all had yesterday off and B) it’s still the first month of the season so fatigue shouldn’t be an issue.

And really, unfair or not I imagine every team would use this to their advantage if they had the chance. I mean, Philly didn’t turn down the chance to have an away series at home, did they? If it’s within the rules, you’d be stupid to not take it.

Look at this way…why doesn’t MLB have doubleheaders all the time? They could shorten the season, move the playoffs back, increase the amount of playoff times, etc. (do all the things they’d ever contemplate doing).

It’s because DHs are brutal on player’s bodies and the coaching staffs plans for a 162 game season. The Mets would have issues dealing with a DH early in the season, but 2 this close together is unforeseeable and a management nightmare.

Doubleheaders also mess with your pitching rotation, relief situation, position player rest timetables etc.

I watch and chart early season rainouts that aren’t immediately made up, because they then become ticking time bombs later during the season and usually face undesirable roster moves (such as being forced to expose a player who’s out of options in order to bring up a spot starter from the minor leagues and/or then losing the ability to bring the player right back up due to the required waiting time after sending him down).

In this case we are also talking about Atlanta, which usually has a mid-late summer monsoon season, so there’s no guarantee that the games would be able to squeezed in on subsequent trips there either.

This is why I strongly favor Selig’s proposal to implement the DH in the NL and then expand active rosters to 26 full time players as a “give back” to the NL teams for finally getting out of the horse and buggy days and implement the DH rule.

Is that any different than what would’ve happened without last night’s rainout? The Mets would’ve had to play a DH while the Braves wouldn’t have. Either way, the Mets had to play 1 more DH than the Braves.

It sucks for them, but crap happens. Their biggest problem is they are having to go with 3 lackluster pitchers in the series.

I don’t know how to respond to the individual who made the second comment. I have no knowledge of how frequently the Mets partake in nightlife, head to the stripclubs, or lay down with ladies. Perhaps this person is a Deadspin informant so they have the inside scoop.
