Fielder has no range. Turning outs into hits instead of errors is not an improvement, it’s just a change.

For comparison, the last 2 years Fielder has played 1431 and 1411 innings and had 66 and 86 assists, Pujols played 1376 and 1380 innings and had 185 and 157 assists.
.
Thats about 100 balls/year that Pujols turns into outs that Fielder does not….and you want to count errors?

Fielder made 17 errors in 2008, 7 in 2009, but only 4 errors last year. So far this year, he’s had no errors. He certainly is improving, but eventually his big build will catch up to him and he will need to DH during his older years.

Just to clarify my comments about Cecil Fielder, he hit 30 HRs after age 33. If you are going to make that kind of association, that gives Prince until about 2017 or so when he turns 33.

Chris F you almost made me spit coffee all over the office that’s great stuff. No doubt that Fielder is going to decline much faster than Braun and similar to his dad Cecil.
So much freaking greed, I am also a Borass basher and can confidently say his approach has affected baseball negatively.
Braun and Fielder are the #1 duo in baseball and I challenge anyone to throw two names out there, they dont have to be 3-4 hitters, who have produced more over the last 3-4 years. It would be a shame to see them split up.
Selig just said that Albert staying in St. Louis would be good for baseball, well, same with Fielder and Milwaukee.

A smart team won’t sign Fielder for anything close to what he’s asking. If I’m a Brewers fan, I’m glad he turned down the $100M extension. In baseball, most fat men decline early and quickly. For how much longer will Fielder be able to field? He’s always been bad defensively and should be a DH pretty soon.

And some idiots will continue to believe that Scott Boras makes his clients wait, and the player is unable to make his own decisions.

Fielder is making 15.5 million this year, he is most likely set for life, anyway.

Turning down $100m extensions has probably worked for a fair share of ballplayers. If not, why would Boras continue to get business? Prince Fielder is an adult. Is it not possible that Prince chose to hire Boras precisely because Prince wants to take the risk of a career-ending injury in order to maximize his contract? Boras has earned his reputation for a reason – he delivers large contracts to his clients. A player who signs Boras is doing so under his own power and assumes the risk involved with waiting until free agency. Your anger at Boras seems misguided…shouldn’t you be angry at Prince for not accepting that offer of $100m?

You had me at your first sentence.

But honestly I have difficulty with anyone getting contracts longer than 5-6 years. Nine years out for Braun may seem like the Brewers are being proactive and prudent, but in general a lot of things can change between now and 2020.

Outside of maybe ARod, most long-term mega-deals just don’t pan out. And Rodriguez’ contract still has six years left on it, so there’s plenty of room for that deal to go south.

Thus the problem with Scott Bor-ass. If Braun blows out his knee in August and never plays again, he’ll be set for life. If Fielder blows out his knee in August and never plays again, in 2 years, he’ll end up 450 pounds sitting on his couch eating peanut butter right out of the jar and yelling at the TV screen like Ben Stiller at the end of Dodgeball. And Bor-ass will continue to sucker guys into thinking the best thing for them is to turn down $100 million dollar contract extensions. And some idiots will continue to defend him.
