I’m a huge Cards fan, but he’s leading the league in GIDP’s. Unless I’ve been watching a different “Albert Pujols” these last 10 years, or Webster changed the meaning of the word “fantastic”, your assessment is incorrect.

I’m not saying he’s playing bad, but he’s not yet up to “Standard Albert Levels” of making baseballs scream in pain.

This borders on insanity. Baseball is not better because Jeter stayed with the Yankers his whole career. The Yankers franchise may be better but “baseball” isn’t better. If halladay gets hurt then the Phillies franchise is hurt but “baseball” will be the same whether halladay pitches or a Phillies farmhand pitches.

An example of things that affect baseball, good or bad, are rule changes. When they added a Wild Card team THAT AFFECTED BASEBALL!!! Pujols staying with the Cardinals won’t have the effect of an ants fart on the “game of baseball”.

Your statements aren’t logical. If Halladay has TJ surgery next month, baseball won’t be as good as it would be if he didn’t have it. That doesn’t mean that the sport isn’t bigger than one player. The fact that it is bigger than one player, or all of the players is exactly why baseball will be better if Pujols plays his entire career as a Cardinal, because of the relationship of Pujols with StL fans and the community that is the larger part of what baseball means to a town/community. If he leaves, that will cease to exist (at least at its currently level) and no such relationship will be developed with the fans of which ever other team he would sign.

Baseball is better because Jeter and Rivera will spend their entire careers in NY, it gives structure to eras, and historical richness to franchises. That value is certainly greater than one player, but those values are established one player at a time.

WRONG!!! If you say something like “baseball will be better with Pujols in saint louis” then you are EXACTLY SAYING that “baseball will NOT be as good if Pujols is NOT in saint louis”. Period. Anybody who doesnt see that doesn’t understand common sense.

Baseball is bigger than Pujols and it will be EXACTLY as good whether Pujols signs with the Cardinals or the Royals. I disagree with you, but I won’t make broad personal statements about everything you write. I’ll just say that I disagree with you sir.

Bud Selig isn’t the Commissioner of Baseball in the traditional sense. He is effectively the Chairman of the Ownership Committee. Bud Selig doesn’t speak for baseball and he never has. He speaks for baseball owners. When he says “Baseball would be better off if something something something,” you should hear, “Baseball owners would be better off if something something something.”

As a Cards fan, of course I want Albert to stay in St. Louis. But this isn’t a place for the Commissioner to be uttering opinions. To be sure Milwaukee would be better off, financially that is, if Albert stays in St. Louis. Maybe even make Fielder think twice about moving on.

Nothing said intimates that baseball isn’t bigger than one player. Did anyone say “baseball will fold if Pujols isn’t is StL?” No. Did anyone say that baseball will be devastated if Pujols isn’t in StL? No. You must be in the straw man constrution business with all of them that you erect in your posts.

It was said that baseball will be better with Pujols in StL….and I agree. Baseball is better with Jeter in NY, it is better with Mauer in MN, it is better with Utley in Philly, baseball is always better when signature players stay with their team.

While Scott Bor-ass disgusts me, this quote from Bud disgusts me even more. Look, it is one thing to be a guy like Prince Fielder and turn down a $100 million extension because you are a greedy bastard who wants a $120 million extension. It is quite another to be one of the three greatest players of all time getting ready to sign your final contract, and being offered something that pays you less than 10+ other players in the game.

Now that the Cardinals have dragged their feet this far, Pujols should take it through this year and then sign for the biggest contract in the history of baseball with the Yankers, Red Sox, Angels, or whoever. It wouldn’t hurt baseball even a little bit. And Bud is an utter a-hole for saying that baseball would be better with Pujols in St. Louis.
