Dash, I believe the expanded play-off system might actually help mimic the regular season. If it is a 3 game play-off, at least, let's hope, then it may not only shorten time between play-of games it will penalize the wild card teams more, and provide rest to the division winners. I agree with the "slippery slope" fears, but as presented, this may actually be an improvement to the playoffs.

As long as by 'dumbest economic system' you mean the one that produces nearly the same number of playoff teams(like 2 fewer in the past two decades) and the same number of different championship winners as the 'leader' in parity, the NFL. Just checking if thats the dumbest economic system you mean. Cause, you know, from where I'm standing it seems to produce reasonable results.

If you want 'dumb economic system' try European soccer/football. When elite teams can't have all the money they simply quit thier league and start new ones they can dominate.

NO, to expanded playoffs! The season needs to be shortened as it is. Playoffs should be shortened by eliminating all travel days wit the exception of West Coast to East Coast travel. Travel days change the "rules" the entire regular season has been played under. The team with the best five person staff makes it through the marathon. Then playoffs begin and teams only use their top three or four starters. The World Series should never be in a position to be snowed out.

Don't have a problem with the extra wild card team, as long as no other wild cards are added. Since baseball has the dumbest economic system around with no signs of fairness in the future, this move will help the lower revenue teams.
