Carl Everett arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon

Apr 26, 2011, 9:27 AM EDT

Carl Everett

Retired outfielder Carl Everett is in big trouble: he was arrested last night on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with a witness.  The details, according to the police report, are that he pointed a gun at his wife’s head and then broke two cell phones when she attempted to call 9-1-1. Yikes.

Everett, who played for eight teams in 14 seasons, has been married to his wife for 18 years. To my knowledge there isn’t a history of domestic violence in their marriage, but it’s hard to see how something can escalate to this with no previous history. UPDATE: readers remind me that Everett had his children removed from his home when he was playing for the Mets after they were “excessively slapped.”

So basically: screw Carl Everett.

Yikes. You’d think after 18 years she would’ve learned not to mention dinosaurs in his presence.

      Spectacular. Take a bow.

(We’re both totally going to hell.)

No known history of domestic violence against his wife – but issues with the kids. A real scumbag, IMHO…

    * * *

The 5-year-old daughter of Mets outfielder Carl Everett who was placed in foster care last week when officials found bruises on her face, does not want to return to her family, a lawyer for the city’s child welfare agency said in court yesterday.

Shawna was placed in foster care last Thursday after child care workers in the Mets’ family room at Shea Stadium noticed bruises on her forehead, left cheek and right ear. She and Carl, who is Linda Everett’s biological son, were taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center where a social worker reported to child welfare workers that ”the father slapped Shawna excessively hard on the face.”

Screw Carl Everett indeed. Lowlife degenerate.

Apparently he doesn’t want Elijah Dukes to lay claim to being idiot-in-chief. I guess even in retirement, the veterans have to protect their spots from the advancing younger talent.

    What a jackassosaurus.

      Well said.

If this guy isn’t a poster boy for prison I don’t know who is. Maybe he and Milton Bradley should open a house for battered women and children, but they’d have a rough time getting a license.

  6. ukraineshaqfan - Apr 26, 2011 at 10:29 AM

maybe the least surprising headline I’ve ever read.

    • Jack Marshall - Apr 26, 2011 at 2:38 PM

Exactly. Watching this guy play on the verge of snapping for two years, it was clear that he was capable of violence and worse. Everett was really talented, even electrifying when his head was screwed on straight, but anything from a bad breakfast to a bad strike call could turn him into Mr. Hyde. I’ll never forget the look on Bret Saberhagen’s face during one of Carl’s on-field meltdowns—it said, “How did I come to be playing with a guy like this?”

  7. vikesfansteve - Apr 26, 2011 at 10:47 AM

The guy is a piece of shit. He wears ear plugs because the fans upset him. Then he beats his wife & kids because he is a loser. Always blaming others for his faults. Never his responsibility. Why the fuck would you need to slap a 5 yr old little girl? A stern loud voice will scare a child into submission. This guy is filth.

    • dlevalley - Apr 26, 2011 at 11:35 AM

I think you’re getting Everett and Milton Bradley mixed up with the earplug thing. Same race, different people.

      • vikesfansteve - Apr 26, 2011 at 6:53 PM

Watch game highlights. He has earplugs. No matter what race you are, you’re a dipshit.

      • dlevalley - Apr 26, 2011 at 8:38 PM

You know that Carl Everett isn’t in the bigs anymore, right? That guy you see on tv with the earplugs is Milton Bradley. Just because they have some similar issues doesn’t mean that they’re the same person. You send me a picture of Carl Everett wearing earplugs I’ll send you a bottle of scotch.

Besides, Carl Everett doesn’t believe in earplugs. He’s never seen them.

“A stern loud voice will scare a child into submission.” This is seriously your “better” approach to raising a child? To dealing with a 5yo little girl? Loud? Scare? Submission???

Lemme tell you something, Solutions Boy. Use a calm, soft, patient voice, and guide the child to proper behavior. Because there are two certainties in raising a child:

“If you hit your child, sooner or later you will not be able to hit hard enough.”
“If you yell at your child, sooner or later you will not be able to yell loud enough.”

When that happens, just exactly how will you stand any chance of your child ever heeding anything you say again? And yeah…that happens at just about the time they’ll need your guidance more than ever.

      Loud…scare…submission. My God.

      • vikesfansteve - Apr 26, 2011 at 6:55 PM

You’re not their friend, you are the parent. Calm patient voice. Shut the fuck up.

Fuckin pussy. You obviously don’t have a kid.

        Assbrain.

I have two sons. They are amazing young men. I am certain that beating them would not have produced such fine young men. I am certain that berating them would not have produced such fine young men. Beating your children into submission is certainly the reason the world is in such terrible disarray. Those of us who are enlightened will certainly opress the likes of such pitiful and pathetic neandrathals of your ilk.

One of those headlines that when you read it you say “I’m not surprised at all.” I hope his wife follows through with prosecution, since she’s been with him so long, and the pattern of violence is escalating, next time could be the last time for her unless he’s put away this time.

It’s not that hard to teach a kid how to utilize Mommy’s makeup to get rid of those marks and bruises. My 5-year-old cleans up real nice after Daddy’s drinking escapades…

    • bigdicktater - Apr 26, 2011 at 8:36 PM

If you’re “Daddy” and/or you think this is funny……..it’s not and you’re a sick fuck.
If you’re “Mommy” you need to get yourself and your 5 year-old away from “Daddy”. Now.
