Well, mystery solved. Roger McDowell, Atlanta pitching coach, in San Francisco. Yep three guys at the ballpark In SF, MUST be gay, right. Very enlightened. And really, what are kids doing at the ballpark. That’s just wrong. I’m guessing McDowell knew he was in trouble, and he reacted like any level headed gentleman would. Threatend to knock out a guy’s teeth, with a baseball bat, in front of his kids. This should go well well for McDowell.

Well aren’t you an enlightened guy. I personally don’t make a habit of degrading people at the bar. And have no problem calling out those that do. And can back up my words with action, if I need too, but generally people who talk big, can’t do much more than that. The tend to be little guy’s. My guess is that it is Ozzie Guillen who on Monday night’s game against the Yankees was using the “maricon” word liberally towards someone while in the dugout and while walking out to change his pitcher. By the way, he is a manager, not a coach.

Interestingly enough, “faggot” and “cocksucker” are in fact anti-gay slurs. One does not hurl them at fans or friends in bars unless one intends to imply that being gay is a bad thing and that, more or less, is the definition of anti-gay. So sorry that our society’s gradual rejection of the notion that one’s sexual orientation in and of itself makes someone a bad person is “disgusting” to you.

The words may be offensive, and perhaps we ought to have harsh words for the person who said them — depending on what the facts are.

But Allred is a lawyer. And our entire legal system, and any free society, is built on the principle that short of threatening someone what you or I say, write or think does not have legal implications. I’m not interested in living in a society where someone like Allred can monitor my words and demand retribution if any of them offend someone.

two gay players that we know about. Billy Bean (not the A’s GM) and Glenn Burke. Burke was out to his teammates and forced out of LA because Tommy Lasorda did not like Burkes friendship with Lasorda’s Gay son. Then he was forced to endure Billy Martin for a couple of years before quitting.

and I am pretty sure MLB cares, if a coach or manager or anyone in a uniform is being hostile to a kid — if MLB’s stance is “kids don’t f#%^ing belong in a ballpark”, then a whole lot of revenue is going out the window, especially at the more family-friendly parks, and you are destroying your future fan base.

and those words do matter, and words do damage. I could go on at length about how they do, but if you use them regularly, you aren’t likely to be willing to understand how or why.

I doubt anyone would be facing legal action for slurs, in all likelihood, the offended party wanted something to drop the issue and the individual and/or team declined. So they are going public to put pressure on those involved/associated to gain leverage in their quest for free stuff.

Oh boy. Yes, lots and lots of people care. Gays have made a lot of progress towards equal rights in plenty of other areas, but professional sports remains one of the final frontiers. No one seems to want to talk about it, but sooner or later we’re going to have to face it. Doesn’t it strike you as odd that there’s only ever been one openly gay baseball player? (I believe one more came out in retirement, but that’s it.) There is obviously discrimination based on sexual orientation going on, and this sort of behavior just feeds it and encourages it.

Davey Lopes was also featured prominently in the Glenn Burke documentary talking about Burke’s proble,s with the dodgers because he was gay. I am assuming he would have learned something from Lasorda’s treatment of Burke to be more sensitive.

Its gotta be someone high profile, otherwise Allred wouldn’t touch it. I am guessing from the Yankees, Red sox or dodgers.
