You gotta admire the sheer nards on McCourt, eh? What gall. That line about his “hard-earned money and my family’s blood, sweat and tears”? Just the fact that he didn’t burst into flames says it all; the dude is a demon because any human uttering such bare faced untruth should spontaneously combust. He is, in the immortal words of Al Franken, a lying liar who lies. And we all know who the father of lies is, don’t we.

As “smart” a businessman as he allegedly is, this Fox deal is terrible for the Dodgers and for MLB. Luckily the brain trust at MLB, so far, seem to be smart enough to realize what a terrible deal this is. You are absolutely right, the NEXT owner should start a regional sports network. I am not a Dodgers fan, but it is really sad that he has taken this proud franchise, with all their rich history, to these sad depths. It is truly shameful what McCourt, and to a lesser extent Bud Selig, have done to get the Dodgers to this point.

Typical douche bag real-estate developer. Give me money to pay someone to do the work and make the checks payable to me.
If it was another franchise, I’d love to see MLB fold it just to screw this loudmouthed bunghole.
His family probably never worked a day and has done nothing to deserve the riches they have.

I am glad to see a reference to the “blood, sweat and tears” put in by his family– the wife whom he fired as soon as the season ended, and the children whom didn’t earn any of the Dodgers dollars they made. What a sick shmuck.

Plus, the deal severely devalues the franchise should the need arise to sell it. The long-term deal will make it complicated for a suitable owner to do what McCourt should have done…start a regional sports network with the Dodgers as a centerpiece.

He’s essentially selling future profits in an attempt to break even now, and with such a crappy deal for the biggest revenue generating mechanisms for teams in big markets, he’s cutting himself off at the knees.

The problem is that the Fox deal is barely big enough to get the Dodgers’ heads above water, while it should be enough to finance a really competitive team. It doesn’t help that they’re going to go even deeper into debt to buy out Jamie’s share, and every penny they get from Fox makes the buyout bigger.
