Bush: Umm…okay. So, we blame is on Saddam so we can invade Iraq…right?

Rumsfeld: (Shakes his head). Dammit George, We’ve been over this! We blame in on Al-Qaeda, and then claim a vague, easily disprovable connection to Iraq, make up some crap about WMD and use THAT as an excuse to invade.

Bush: But why! Just blame it on Saddamn!

Rumsfeld: You just don’t get it. That’s too obvious. The more exploitable holes we leave in our plan, the more we’ll look like incompetent boobs and therefore incapable on conspiracy.

Yeah, you must have hit the “look inside” tab and gotten hooked by the writing from page one. I would invite everyone who notices this thread to try that – just “open it up” on Amazon via the link and read the first few pages. That happens to a lot of folks I’ve recommended this book to – it’s a subject they just don’t want to think about anymore and then Josyph’s prose nails them. It’s beautifully written and very powerful. Lots of shit you never imagined went on. Let me know how you like it.

I know this dosen’t end anything, I doubt he was directing Al Quaida much anymore. But it had to happen.

I also don’t feel a trial would have accomplished much. It would have been accused of being rigged, staged, or just become a target for terror attacks. Honestly going down in a firefight was probably the best possible outcome for everyone, including Osama.

Alive and they can have shown him for what he was; little better than other cult figures like Jim Jones and David Koresh. Guys like that love the sense of being important; I bet that’s how he was eventually located. He couldn’t stand his leadership eroding, wanted some comfort, some ego building and to regain some of his stature with al quaeda. Someone ratted him out, likely someone with close ties to his organization. I hope the 25 million bounty comes with some stipulations (no terrorists or members of al quaeda).

He’d have cracked in prison. He was found in a mansion, has always enjoyed great personal freedom, access to his wealth, women (7 wives was it?), prestige, importance, a sense of being a great figure. Relegated to just another prisoner in solitary and he’d have been turning evidence as fast as he could to get some of that back. By doing so his legacy as a great revolutionary/martyr would have been severely eroded.

Whatever, though. He’s dead. I won’t say I’m sorry to see the last of him. I fear, however, more violence in his name will occur.

And, like you, I’m tempering my elation with the knowledge that this ends nothing, and also means everything could get worse with no head at the top of the snake.

I understand the killing OBL is largely symbolic. But, it as much a PR disaster for the terrorists as it is a PR Coup for the United States.

This sends a message: If you are a terrorist you are not safe in Pakistan anymore.

OBL has been an enemy combatant of US for 20 years. It’s good to close that book. I’m not so much happy about the death. I’m happy for the US Forces, CIA for accomplishing a goal they’ve been seeking for a long time, and a goal that they’ve taken a lot of crap for not accomplishing.

And then the Phillies put Kendrick in and I was like, touche’ Philly, touche’.
