No truth to the rumor that he held offseason workouts with Dusty Baker?
Seriously, the dude needs to get a thorough checkout. You don’t just drop 7 mph off your fastball at his age without something being physically really wrong. Something’s up.
The other thing he needs to do is learn how to pitch. Not blow the doors off every batter. I just remember David Cone – the guy threw mid-90s early in his career, and then came up with all these bizarre arm angles and pitches later in his career once the heater wasn’t as effective. But I don’t think Hughes could be at that point yet, what is he, 25? Something’s physically wrong with him.

Perhaps it is Chamberlain Syndrome, caused by rapid transitions from bullpen to rotation with a team that is not good at handling such transitions, often leading to one of the better young SP prospects in the game becoming a Seventh Inning Guy. Only known cure is a trade to the NL West.
