More elbow problems for Dodgers: Andre Ethier scratched from today’s lineup

Casey Blake is on the disabled list with an infected elbow, Jonathan Broxton was shut down with elbow pain earlier this afternoon, and now Andre Ethier has been scratched from today’s lineup with elbow inflammation.

Ethier played through the injury yesterday, going 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 29 games, and was initially in the lineup today.

Don Mattingly indicated that he may still be available off the bench as a pinch-hitter, but it’ll be interesting to see if he’s truly willing to put the hitting streak to risk in a situation where Ethier would likely get just one at-bat.

They must have all rubbed elbows..

ok bad joke. As for the pinch hit aspect, that would be interesting to see if that situation comes up.

I hope he does pinch hit and pops out. I have nothing against Ethier – I just don’t want there to be any reason for fans to flood Dodger Stadium and make it possible for McCourt to make payroll this month.

    You all understand that, right?

As much as it pains me, AGREED.

Lifelong Dodgers fan and I agree. But if the streak was nearing 40 then I wouldn’t risk it.

Im going to preempt this by saying that no matter WHO the player is I believe this to be true no the less. that being said: if the game is on the line and Mattingly decides that its better to keep his streak alive than allow his team a chance to win he should be fired on the spot. the day a manager puts an individuals NON HEALTH related preference ahead of the teams is the day he should no longer be managing.

It will likely take a Matt Kemp HR to keep from getting shut out…….

    Today’s Dodger line up:

    Tony Gwynn Jr., LF
    Aaron Miles, 2B
    Jay Gibbons, RF
    Matt Kemp, CF
    Juan Uribe, SS
    James Loney, 1B
    Dioner Navarro, C
    Russ Mitchell, 3B
