Eric Chavez is hurt

UPDATE: Turns out that Chavez fractured his fifth metatarsal bone. Which is his pinky toe to you and me.

3:02 PM: Eric Chavez got the start at third base for the Yankees this afternoon but he had to leave the game after pulling up lame on a triple.  No official word yet, but it looked like a groin pull or strain or whatever you do to groins.

I was tempted to make a “news flash!” joke about it, but this kind of bums me out. Chavez may have been the walking wounded for half a decade, but he had a great spring and has been pretty darn useful for the Yankees so far.  His line of .303/.410/.424 has made giving Alex Rodriguez days off a much more palatable option. Now it’s pretty thin on the Yankees bench.

Shoot, I even added him in my 20 team, 27 player fantasy keeper league and tried to stick him at Util or 3b when he got the start. Back to the scrap heap.

The injury is in: Small fracture in his left foot, says Tigers broadcaster Mario Impemba.

    Sucks, sucks, sucks.

Fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone.. aka, he broke his pinky toe.

Teixeira played through one of those last year. Chavez gets plenty of time off , so he should be fine. Although…. Nah.. he’ll be fine.. right?

This just in: General Franco is still dead.

He didn’t break his pinky toe. The metatarsal is behind the toe, closer to where the toe and foot meet. If he broke his pinky toe he’d be able to play. When you break the metatarsal you can’t put weight on that foot. Huge difference.
