Ah, my bad. Looking back, money was a factor, but not free agency. Even with Miggy doing well and Miller and Maybin not doing much, the costs of that Willis contract really hurt the franchise.

Yes, a lefty would be so valuable to the Yankees especially with all of Bostons left handed heavy lineup. I don’t think they’ll be dead for too much longer they have some pretty good bats that aren’t hitting just yet.

My friend I do remember. Cashman knows that regardless how well this rotation pitches that he can’t go into the stretch run starting August with these 5. My monies on a trade with a team from the Central Division (AL or NL) who has played themselves out of contention. The other possibility is CJ Wilson of the Rangers. I believe he’s a FA at years end if he doesn’t sign an extension with the Rangers before then and he is a lefty. I think a trade is a bit of a long shot but you never know and depending how the Rangers do the rest of the season anythings possible.

With all due respect you remember incorrectly. Granderson was signed by the Tigers to a 5 year contract for 2008 through 2012 plus a club option for 2013. He was traded to the Yankees for the 2010 season with 3 years plus the option year remaining on the contract he signed with the Tigers.

So if he was going to walk it couldn’t be for at least 4 years from the time he was traded (that includes the club option year).

He’s shown power for quite some time but has struggled hitting lefties and getting on base.

Austin Jackson was never expected to do much. His ceiling was supposed to be Granderson’s worst, basically. So the Yankees were trading unknown potential for a guy who had already reached ( with the potential to far surpass) that potential. The trade made a lot of sense to most people who weren’t irrationally in love with an unproven prospect with limited upside.

And, uyf, our pitching isn’t even edge-of-your-seat as it has been some seasons.I still wince at lack of run production and inability to score late in many games.

…as a side note to yesterdays Yankees game and the excellent performances by both Granderson and Nova.

If someone would have made the bold prediction before the season that the Yankees starting rotation would consist of CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Ivan Nova, Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia and that the highest ERA 30 games into the season would be 4.08 by Nova they would have been laughed out of town. Yet here we are 30 games into the 2011 season and that’s what’s happened. Three pitchers with ERA’s at or below 3.00, one pitcher at 3.71 and lastly Nova at the 4.08. Who would have thought that it would be the Yankees starting rotation that’s keeping them in games. They were suppose to be the Achilles heel of the Yankees.

Will it continue, who knows but it’s fun while it last.

All those fans that were all over Cashman for basically trading Jackson for Granderson where are they now. Since roughly the middle of last August Granderson has been lights out. He just needed a little time to feel comfortable in Yankee pinstripes.

I remember saying Granderson will hit at least 35 HR’s this year and some clown on here said i was nuts and that he was too old and never hit that number in his career and blah blah blah. 25 more to go on may 7th
