Getty Images Patrick Mooney of CSNChicago.com reports that Geovany Soto left tonight’s game against the Cardinals in the bottom of the first inning with a left groin strain.
It’s not clear how the injury occurred, but Carrie Muskat of MLB.com writes that Soto appeared to hurt himself while going after a foul ball during Matt Holliday‘s at-bat in the top of the inning.
Soto is batting .226/.322/.387 with three homers and 12 RBI over his first 121 plate appearances this season. He has just nine hits over his last 51 at-bats.
Koyie Hill hit for Soto in the bottom of the first and would receive the majority of the playing time behind the plate if the injury requires a stint on the disabled list.
