Paul Konerko: speed and defense

Paul Konerko had a ridiculous night for the White Sox last night.  Check out the behind-the-back toss to get the last out of the game. Check out the leaping stab he made just before that. Dude also had an infield single and stole a base.

Between the leather and the speed, it’s everything we’ve come to love about Paul Konerko, right?

I think the first baseman climbing the ladder to snare a line drive is one of the most exciting plays in baseball. For some reason, I feel like it doesn’t happen as much at third, and even when it does, it just feels less impressive.

Konerko’s got a basket full o’ nasty. Great, great first baseman.

Konerko’s cool. He’s got plenty of fantasy points for me this week, behind only (drumroll) Jayson Werth!More happenstance than skill on my part, there are only so many Yankees and ex-Yankees you can get.

I was at the Angel-White Sox game last night and it had a little bit of everything and was one of the best baseball games I’ve seen in person in years. Dunn hit a mammoth home run, Jake Peavy showed that he’s going to be able to come back and the box score doesn’t reflect just how well he actually pitched.

Then the White Sox come roaring back to tie it in the top of the 9th. Emerging White Sox closer Sergio Santos comes in and continues to be lights out. Then the two defensive web gems by Konerko in the bottom of the 10th. Just a real fun game to be at.

Just to add to the evening, the adjacent freeway to Anaheim Stadium was completely shut down by the highway patrol in the 8th inning. You could see all the cop cars on the freeway and a police helicopter with a search like was combing everything from the stadium parking lot to everything between the two exits for the stadium from the freeway.

As it turns out, the police found a dead female between the car pool and fast lanes and haven’t even as of yet been able to identify her or what she was doing walking on a freeway in the dark at night. Bet none of you have ever had to detour exiting a ballpark due to a Jane Doe being discovered!
