Good clubs contend and bad ones don't. Obviously there is more room to make mistakes with a higher payroll but it's not like small market teams can't compete and the bigger market teams always compete. There are a lot of exceptions on both sides.

The Royals and Pirates have been run poorly for many years. For that reason I think it's good that they suck. What would be even better is if their jackass owners actually lost money so they would be forced to sell to someone who could actually run the teams well. That would be good for the whole league. Imagine if all the clubs were putting as much effort into player development as teams like the Braves, Rays, A's and Twins ... the overall product would be so much better and there would be a lot more competition regardless of payroll.

And honestly, the Yankees and Red Sox can only overpay 50 players. Wish people would stop crying about that and hold their own teams accountable instead. (Don't like how they're running things, don't go to the game. If nobody comes they'll sell, don't worry.)

Ahh Yes, "The if my Aunt had balls she'd be my Uncle" argument.

I'm well aware of how the series went down. There are a lot of if's in baseball. It's the "ifs" that make a difference.

I wouldn't worry too much Yankee Fan, the last time the Royals did you like this you won the World Series. Just let us Royals Fans have fun at your expense while we can.

Whether or not Bora$ is right isn't the point here, he's a pompous toad. Baseball is the only one of the four major sports that isn't looking face-first at a lockout in the next two years, yet Boras apparently wants to change that.

It's one thing to try to get the most for your clients, it's another thing to promote self-attention and spew out inflammatory comments like Boras does. But every major sport seems to have a handful of agents just like this.

Well Boras isn't the only person to think along these lines. Popular name ball players getting larger than expected contracts have been happening all over baseball lately. Is there a push to lock guys up before rules change? Will we sit back in a few years talking about how savvy moves by the Rockies, Nats, BoSox, And Phills, saved, and /or made them money in the long run? I see a jump in superstar pay in the near future, only because of how the market has been lately. These people are reacting to something they also anticipate imo. But then again we all love to invent theories of "why".

Dude, for the last time they didn't lose a year of control by bringing him up before June. He is under control till the end of the 2017 season. All calling him up last week cost KC is "maybe" another year of arbitration, depending on the super-2 rules.

If you want to rant on Glass and the way KC has been run for the past 15 years fine (they deserve it), but get your facts straight.

I'm excited about Hosmer's hot start. I'm real excited they went into NY and took 2 of 3 for the Yankees.

But lets face it. If Hosmer is a stud. Anyone outside the I95 corridor won't have a shot at signing him anyway. And that's still why MLB has an effed up economic policy.

From an organizational stand point it's way too early to sign Hosmer. There's still guys chasing storms that could be studs. Even if the Royals lock some of them up, they're not going to lock ALL of them up.

Just chill Royals Fans. I mean they just took 2 of 3 from the Evil Empire in games where the SP were Vin Mazzaro and Sean O'Sullivan. (how do you feel about that Yankee Fan) Wear your gear and smile.

Major league Baseball is a business and if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. These so-called small market teams are owned and operated by Multi-Millionaires who con the so-called small market fans into thinking they can't afford to play with the "Big Boys", i.e., Yankees, Boston and Anaheim. Get real and wake up and smell the coffee.

Royals' owner David Glass is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. In the event you have been sleeping under a rock let me inform you that that dude is a multi millionaire.

During his tenure as owner, Glass has been criticized for using the same cost-cutting management style of the Wal-Mart company with the Royals baseball team, resulting in large personal profits for himself but a poorly-performing team. Glass' management is cited for transforming the Royals from a winning team in the 1980s to one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball during the 1990s and 2000s.

So keep on spending your hard earned money at Kaufman Stadium. I for one don't feel any pity for you or those other naive Royals fans that fall for Glass' BS. This is what's referred to as free market; but it ain't free!

Hosmer hired Borass to get him the best deal possible and if he becomes a superstar he'll leave like so many other great players before him.

Go Yankees!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bor-ass doesn't give a shit about the long-term security of his clients. He is about one thing and one thing only...getting his clients the most money. Period. I'm not saying that is wrong. It is what it is. I was thrilled when Gonzalez did what he did signing with the Rockies through 2017 at a slight discount for the added security. This dude has played 6 freaking games and I guarantee Scotty Bor-ass already has prepared his powerpoint presentation comparing him to Albert Pujols and Lou Gehrig.

Take the money and long-term security if it is offered to you kid. You never know what is going to happen to the sport, the economy, and most importantly, to your body. THAT is the soundest advice he can get.

The Royals will have Hosmer for 6 years....that is hardly raining on anyone's parade. If you have a Boras client or any uber-talented young player, odds are that you will be lucky to sign them to a deal that includes a single year of FA eligibility. The best you can usually do is to sign them through their arbitration years.
.
Boras does his job very well, a large part of his job is to be the bad guy to focus fan/media attention on himself as the source of friction and not the player. That is exactly what he is doing and exactly what he should be doing.

Yankee fan here...Hosmer looks great so far, and I hope they find a way to keep him in KC with all that other great young talent. I was a big fan in the 70s and remember the Brett/White/Splittorff/etc teams that had a great rivalry with the Yanks. Would love to see that again. KC is a great baseball city...same goes for Baltimore. Would love to see both come back to where they belong.

This is excellent news for Royals fans.

“You can’t look at the markets of the past. For players like Hosmer, as you go back and look, as [Mark] Teixeira had his own market and [Prince] Fielder had his own market, Hosmer will have his own. And something tells me it’s going to be a rather eventful one.”

Translation: We can't afford a badass like this...he'll be a Yankee or Red Sox at some fucking point.

My god it's rough being a Royals fan. Hopefully we can make a playoff run by 2016...sad yes, but that's the goal before these studs pull a Damon, Beltran, Dye, etc.

Sure would have been nice to have control of him through the 2017 season but that would have meant waiting three weeks to call him up, which obviously would have made no sense...apparently, according to non Royals fans.
