Thanks for the clarification. As this is more likely for him to clear his head, they obviously wouldn’t pursue that.

That clause has a few conditions (length of time, pre-existing condition, etc.). I’mpretty confident this trip to the DL will not trip that option.

The DL stint gives him 15 days to get things straigtened out and to clear his head.

I think it’s only a specific type of elbow injury though…something he’s already had in the past, not sure what it is.

According to info from Cot’s Baseball Contracts (http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/) there is a “2015 club option at Major League minimum salary if Lackey misses significant time with surgery for pre-existing elbow injury in 2010-14.” So, it’s only if he has surgery, AND if the surgery is deemed to be related to his pre-existing elbow injury, whatever that was.

Doesn’t Lackey have a clause in his contract that spending time on the DL with an elbow injury triggers an option so he plays a 6th year at the league minimum?

Pretty much had to at this point , wake doesn’t have much left , but hell somehow pitch a good game about 1 of every 3 starts . Best of luck to Lackeys wife.
